This is a case of not knowing the right words to google for. I'm looking to have someone come out to the house and run coax cable. I'm trying to search, but I'm not coming up with anything useful. [more inside]

I am buying a house that has full English ivy covering the stucco on the house. I want to hear from folks that have ivy on your house or have had ivy on your house what it takes to care for it and if there's anything you wish you had known about it before you got it. The house is in Southern California, so there will be year round growth I assume. [more inside]

I am looking for a chapter book I read as a kid in the 1970s/1980s in which a princess and her family have to move out of their ancestral home and instead rent all the houses on a street to hold all their things that used to be in the castle. It was kind of an adventure/mystery story after that, I think involving something with the family possessions. Anyone know the title of this book please?

Looking into building a house near Golden/Boulder CO area. Planning on using ICF's. Looking for suggestions of almost any kind. Would like the house to be about 2000sqft. Am a teacher and worked construction for several summers (but only w/ stick built houses) a few years ago so I will have some time and rudimentary knowledge. Trying to keep the house as simple as possible to keep costs down. Simple rectangular shape and roof and trying to avoid the need to any custom building supplies. If we keep it under $300,000ish we won't need financing. Is it possible? [more inside]

Our attic space is very very hot. We have ridge vents, and two (small) gable vents, but no soffit vents whatsoever because the house (a 2000 sq foot 1960s ranch) doesn't have soffits. Instead, when you look up at the side of the house, you just see the bottom of the roof; there's just no place to install a soffit vent.
The AC vents run through the attic. The previous owner put 20" of insulation in, which seems to be keeping things manageable, but I'm sure that we're losing a lot of cooling via the attic. As, again, it is unbelievably hot in there. I've actually been leaving the attic stairs in the garage down when I'm home, with the garage door open, in the hopes that some airflow will result.
How can we cool it down? I know that just adding powered fans will do next to nothing as there's nowhere to draw the air from (b/c no soffit vents). Any experience with any new fangled systems? Austin, Texas (so snow is not an issue). The house has stood for 50 years like this, as have all the houses around it, so I know that we don't have
to do anything, but I'd like to if there's a reasonable solution.

Say I wanted to buy 1000 metres squared of suburban land to build a house on. Is my family allowed to live in a couple of caravans on the site while the house is being built, or will my local council nix that? I'm in Australia by the way.

Should I buy a house in Bristol, UK, or wait?
I have a 100k deposit, and a 100k mortgage in principle. Should I buy a house or flat in Bristol UK?
I am single, 32, more or less happy renting, and have no reason to buy other than a sense of cultural obligation, boredom with renting, and available cash.
There is nothing tying me to Bristol, if you have any golden location tips I'm willing to travel.

Earlier this month, there was a fire in the house my boyfriend and I were renting. Basically the attic fan caused a fairly extensive fire which moved through the ducts and damaged the roof and ceiling. Not much damage was done to the ground floor, other than smoke and water. My boyfriend and I are now considering buying the house, and are looking for advice and experiences you might have for this situation. [more inside]
