My parents want to put the down payment on a (small) house, and have me live in it and pay the mortgage. Are there any downsides to this that I'm missing?

My husband and I own a small house, and were originally planning on moving early next year. We got some good news over the holidays and I am now nearing the end of the first trimester of my first pregnancy. We'd still like to move, but is it easier to do this while I'm pregnant or should we wait until the baby is 6 months old?

Teach-Me-About-Renting-Vs-Buying Filter: I'm in my mid-20s and have been in my "grown up job" for about a year now, and it's about time to get my own place. What do I need to know, beyond just comparing rent and mortgage payments?

I love reading
The Hunt column in the NY Times. Love watching "Location, Location, Location" (which I only get to see on cable when I'm at a hotel I travel to for work). Loved House Hunters when I saw it while overseas. I even like reading Ask Metafilter questions about where people should rent or buy when I have never even been to that city. What else would I like?

I would like to buy a home. I am currently single, in my early 30s, and would like to meet someone special and have a family. Right now, I could buy something that would suit one person, a couple, and maybe a couple with a kid - but not really a "family" home. Should I buy or wait?

I made an offer to buy a house, it was accepted, contracts signed and earnest money paid. The sellers just changed the appearance of the house without any warning. Should I have been told about it beforehand?

I have been trying to buy a house in the inner-west in Sydney, Australia for several months. Contrary to what's going on in the rest of the world, Oz houses are effing crazy high and have jumped between $20-$100k (esp in my area) in the past year. I have found a good house for a price I can do - but it's on a fairly busy road. Would you want to go to there?

how important was your wedding to you? (not the marriage, the wedding) if you had a big affair, did you regret not spending the money on something more practical? if you had a small affair, did you regret not including more people? if you eloped or had a microwedding, did you wish you had done more to mark the occasion?

How do we figure out whether we're financially and emotionally ready to buy our first home? We have a really good handle on what we can afford, which neighborhoods we like best, what houses are going for. We've read "Home Buying for Dummies." We've saved up an OK chunk of cash. But my husband and I are both worried, and for different reasons.

How does one go about figuring out what to bid on a house? The problem that I am faced with is the house I am interested in is listed by my realtor and thus we are in a dual agency. He cannot instruct me on what to bid nor can he instruct the seller that my bid sucks or is great. Please help me with this.
