I'm heading to Hawaii and on our first day our flight lands in Honolulu at 8am but our flight to Kauai isn't until 5pm. Are there any hotel rooms that offer day rooms you can book in advance? So far we've tried the Pacific Marina Inn, but they said they cannot advise availability until the day.
We really just want somewhere we can shower and store our bags, so any other suggestions are welcome.

After many years of monogamy followed by several years of celibacy
(continually enforced by the fact that, out of raw fiscal necessity, I will continue to share a house and mortgage with my ex for the indefinite future), a chance encounter has left me with the opportunity to enjoy one (or, fingers crossed, more than one!) casual hookup(s) with a breathtakingly attractive near-stranger.
Can you walk me through this process -- safety, guidelines, what to do/not do or say, etc. -- like a complete newbie?

I have to go to Peoria, IL for a week starting February 6 to tend to the affairs of my mother, whose dementia is getting worse. I grew up there but I haven't been back for years, and when I did go back I stayed at Mom's. Now there is no room at Mom's because she's in assisted care. Where should I stay?

Any personal recommendations for Manhattan hotel that is clean and won't totally break the bank? I'm thinking ideally ~$200. It would be for Feb 25th (Saturday, a week from today). Private bath a must.

What can I do with all my single socks or socks with holes in them. Also I seemed to have amassed an obnoxious amount of hand cream from hotels - is there any use for them (I can't possibly grease myself up with that much hand cream)?

I have a wedding to go to in Eugene. I am flying in and out of PDX. I know that it's a 2 hour drive between the two. My flight was at 5pm on Monday, but now (thanks!) it's been moved up to 1pm. I need a plan for coming back to Portland on Sunday, staying the night, and then getting to the airport at a reasonable time.

I run a medium sized (70 room) hotel with my family. The cost of our utilities is a continuing concern for the hotel. Guests routinely check-out of their rooms and leave all of the lights on, heater/air-conditioning on, television and radio playing. There are also incidents where the tap water is left running. We realize that there is a mentality that once the cost of the room has been determined, the guest assumes that they may "use" as much of the room/utility as they can.
My question: is there a way for the hotel to place a small sign by the light-switch or the door that advises guests to help us conserve energy without being perceived as rude or cheap? Additionally, how would the wording on the sign read?

Going on a last minute trip to Portland Oct 5 through 9 and looking for a good hotel in the downtown area for my husband and self. I'm hoping to find something nice, must have wifi, under 200 (preferably closer to 100) walkable to downtown stuff, and on the quiet side.
We are there for the Guided by Voices show. I've never been to portland and have no idea what is there except they have a big bookstore I want to go to. Any suggestions for stuff to do in downtown area would be great - I will be doing more research online but I'm so tired from working since 5 am I can't stare at a screen anymore. thanks so much!

I'm staying in an Embassy Suites hotel in Chicago this week.
Today, I returned to the hotel to see that on three of the lower floors, each room had a stack of exactly two identical chairs placed outside the door. This struck me as really odd.
What does it mean? Is it some kind of code for housekeeping or management?

Physics question: A hotel room. An ice bucket. An air conditioner shooting up cold air. A fleece blanket. Put the fleece blanket over the bucket to trap the air. Hypothesis: The fleece blanket will trap the cool air around the bucket, keeping it colder longer. OR The fleece blanket will do what it always does, make things warmer. Which will be?
