If you've ever paid $10 to $30 a month for a hosted online e-commerce solution, I have some questions for you about your experience.

Who should I go through to buy a domain name? New to this part of internet-dom. (Both using MetaFilter and owning digital real estate) My plan is to have a domain name where I can post my as-yet-nonexistant blog as well as build my own personal brand. Are there any suggestions for a newbie as to who I should go through to buy the domain? A friend has offered me hosting space, but any advice on that would be appreciated as well. Thanks in advance!

My website's domain is not resolving after ≈60 hours. The test link from the hosting service is working fine. The nameservers are correctly assigned over at my registrar. What gives?

I'm an independent graphic artist looking to create a simple but not amatuerish-looking portfolio website to showcase my work. And because of my limited budget, I pretty much have to do it myself. However, I'm having trouble getting started because there's so much information out there, a lot of it conflicting, out-of-date, too specific, or too general. Please help me do this right! Plenty

I work for a small web development company. As we are growing, I have been tasked with looking at a few pieces of our business:
- Version Control (Currently we don’t do it. We’re starting to use Subversion at my recommendation)
- Development Environments (We don’t exactly have formalized dev/stage/production right now, more like just dev/production…)
- Hosting (How we host our different clients varies… too much… we need a good solution)
- Infrastructure (i.e. how we host our own email, how we back up our data)
I already have some thoughts and recommendations, but they’re based on my personal experiences, so I thought I’d see what other experiences are out there and find out what other people/companies are doing…

Where's a good place to get cheap Unix or windows hosting, meaning a server that I have root/Administrator access too? I don't need much bandwidth, but most of the deals out there that give you admin rights are high bandwidth and high cost.

I am looking for a web host that also has IMAP email access. I'm not looking for anything fancy. I would like at least 1 GB of storage. All I read is horror stories and none of the rating sites seem very reputable. Could you please post your recommendations?

What are the benefits and drawbacks of hosting blogging software on a domain separate from a blog's domain? The only advantage I see is that it keeps my blog's log files clear of my MovableType 3.11 installation, resulting in cleaner traffic reports. I see no disadvantages. Is it better to just make subdomain for the software installation?

I've got about 400 MB of my (as in I made it, I own it) music that I want to host somewhere. I'm willing to pay and I don't want my users seeing popups or anything like that. My html is hosted somewhere else already so I just need space for the mp3 files. Any help? I've been looking at hosting services for days and I can't find the kind of deal that I'm sure is out there.
