TV FILTER: I am looking for the name of a 70s-80s home repair/gardening TV show, and the female host's name. I used to watch the show, in syndication, on local Seattle TV in the early 80s. I believe the show was made in Canada, but maybe the US. The hostess was a thin woman with light brown hair and the shows premise was that she was a housewife working on her house and garden while the husband was away. They had a dog. She would have sections on the show showing how to pot plants, change light bulbs, grout tile, etc....>

I will soon be distributing a bunch of large scientific and research datasets, all entirely legal for redistribution, many as large as a few gigabytes. Bittorrent is the best solution for this. Many respectable webhosting sites don't allow Bittorrent trackers; too many of those that do seem fly-by-night. I have a budget for this and want something respectable and reliable. Recommendations? I want to setup a Windows 2003 server using my dynamic IP address that I have from Comcast. How can I make this happen? I have a linksys Gateway (WCG200) that has the server and a few other computers connected to it. I am trying to setup a small server for my printing/web hosting/file sharing/remote access needs. I need to see how to setup my DNS & DHCP settings for this to happen. Also I have my own domain name which I would like to use. Can I use programs from companies like no-ip.com to setup my web site so if anyone types my registered domain it will find my site? Remember that I will be using a dynamic address. Or the last straw is to get a static IP address. Where can I do so(for the cheapest price)?

I am running a free Web-based service for friends and acquaintances. Lately, the volume on this service has been growing greatly. The next step is to move the service to a professional host. I am thinking of putting a paypal donation button on the site to help pay for it. Are there any legal or tax issues I need to worry about? Do I need a business license? What if I want to start selling Cafe Press items or running Google ads? I am located in the USA.

My current host is closing down, and since I bought my domain through them it will be transferred into my name before they finally close at the end of the year. However, my domain expires on December 12, and they are so far unresponsive to my emails and have not transferred the domain (it has been two weeks since my initial request). I am worried that if I'm not able to renew it, it will be snapped up by a domain-sitter and I will lose it. In case it isn't transferred in time, is there a way I can beat the domain-sitters to it and reserve my domain? What are the more affordable options for doing this? Will I be guaranteed to get it?

Since web hosting companies tend to come and go like ships on the tide, I would like
">to revisit this question ... with a few alterations. I want the price to stay below $10 a month, possibly even under $5. Instead of 20mb of space, I want 500mb or more. Also, I want PHP, MySql, CGI scripting, FTP, webmail, etc ... and if their servers run on Apache, then all the better. Any recommendations?

Why does bandwidth cost anything? Short of hosting companies finding a means to make some money, what is the actual cost justification on charging for overages, etc? Is it a racket or does traffic actually put an expense on an ISP forcing them, in turn, to charge customers? Always wondered. Thanks.

A family member of mine wants to set up a simple site for his home business - schedules of classes, some photographs, contact information, links, etc., and I have suggested that he use Typepad, which I use for a number of projects. However I think he'd prefer a non-weblog format, which leads me to my question: are there combined hosting/construction tools out there, like some of these weblog services, that have a good and very easy-to-use back-end, lots of design/format choices, but are more focused around a more heirarchically structured, top-down site structure?

Ok, I love Firefox. I have been using it since it came out. The question I have is that every now and then I will go to load a page and it says Cannot Resolve Host. Yet if I open it in IE it loads perfectly fine. Now this wouldn't be that big of a deal if it happened seldomly, however this happens after about 5 minutes of heavy website browsing. All of a sudden NO domain can be reached until I fire up IE first.
I do not have this problem with IE, nor do I get this problem on my mac with Safari or IE Mac. My question is, Did I screw up a setting somewhere in Firefox that it just hangs? Does anyone else suffer from this same problem? And is there a solution? [more inside]
