Trying to find a song based on what I remember on the music video. Was sung by a woman, kind of melancholy sounding. Most notable part of the music video was a woman riding a horse and she had dramatically long hair that floated through the sky. [more inside]

I live in Charlotte, NC. A friend and I were discussing how we'd like to go to a horse race and make some bets. We don't even know where to begin on that. We were thinking we could drive to Kentucky. I know of the big tracks out there like Churchill Downs but does horse racing have a minor league? Are there tracks with a lower profiles where betting happens but you don't have to own a yacht to attend?
I am interested in making horsehair jewelry. First and foremost, I'd like to make a bracelet for my daughter for Christmas. If all goes well (i.e. it doesn't look like a 2 year old made it), it'd be kinda neat to expand and maybe sell some horsehair jewelry too. But, I don't know where to begin. [more inside]
I inherited a riding horse when my father died a few years ago. Until recently I was able to provide for it at a relatively low cost, but that is changing and I am in a dilemma as to what to do. Looking for possible solutions, especially from resident Vermont Mefites. [more inside]

YANAD (or maybe you are), but a few weeks ago I suffered a fall from my horse and now there's a funny bump on my ankle. I will be going to my GP sometime soon but am still curious as to what it may be. Details inside. [more inside]
In an old cartoon clip, a rider who was perhaps but not definitely yosemite sam goes to jump on his horse again, to ride off. The horse takes exception to this and nays: "Whoooahoahoah no ya don't!" and if I remember correctly, proceeds to stand up, reach around, and yank the rider off his back. What cartoon is this? Super Friday bonus points for a YouTube link.
I have a small paddock in my horse pasture that is used for both tack and hay storage and grooming. It is very crude: tin roof and wood planks with large gaps in between them. Last winter, I used tarp to cover the walls in the tack/hay storage room, but the wind blew them in and over time it was not effective. Without re-building the paddock and spending a lot of money, what is the best way to cover those gaps in between the wood planks? The gaps are probably around 2". Thank you!

My friend just bought a wood carving of a horse head (Pictures: 1, 2, 3, 4). It's supposedly from India and about 200-300 years old. Furthermore, the seller told us people used to hang them in pairs on the sides of their door as a status symbol (hence the wrought iron nail through the chest). [more inside]

James Thurber fans, gather 'round. I'm reading his The Years with Ross and in the chapter titled "More Miracle Men" is a Thurber drawing of a star above a horse, and the horse is shedding a tear. I can scarcely believe I'm using a question for this, but I greatly wish to know: Why is the horse crying?
Does anyone have a source for a nice big image of the logo for the Moscow Engineering Physics Institute? There's a vector version floating around, but I'd much prefer a large version of the original.
A textbook that I once read contained a passage from some famous author (possibly Mark Twain?) that attempted to illustrate the usefulness of jargon by describing how to saddle a horse, or hitch a horse to a wagon (something like that) without using any specialized terminology. It was marvelously long-winded and impossible to follow. Textbook long since discarded, Google-Fu fails; any idea what this might have been?

Tomorrow, Zenyatta will attempt to win her 20th and final race at Churchill Downs. I am not a gambler, but would like to place some bets to make watching the race more fun. Of course, I wouldn't mind winning some money, too. I'm hoping someone here can give me some strategy tips based on these odds. A friend has suggested placing 12 exacta bets on Zenyatta to win and each of the others to place. The assumption I'm making is that she will indeed win.

Hey London -- I have a pony request! No, really - a REAL pony request: American Mefite visiting has heard rumours that there are actual pony/horse rides available at some local parks. This is as far as my knowledge on the matter goes. I am an accomplished equestrian (and do tend to bounce when thrown, anyway) so, I don't want to ride a merry-go-round. Where can I find a spot to go for a ride? Would anyone like to join me?
Defeating evil bloodsucking insects: Is there a style of ear net that will stay on my horse overnight or should I leave his fly mask on all night? In the past I have used Swat, but do not want to do that this year. Normal fly spray is ineffective. [more inside]
