I ran across an old friend on a social networking site. Five years ago, we went on a few dates and slept together a few times. He wants to have coffee. Really, just coffee. He's in a relationship, I'm married. Is it OK to see this guy? Should I tell my husband about our past? [more inside]

I'm 27 years old now and haven't started a serious career yet, but I have graduated with an engineering degree. I decided I wasn't interested in engineering after some work experiences in the past and so I've tried to move into other fields. By now, I've dabbled in 3-4 other areas, but still can't make a decision. I'm afraid that this switching around is going to continue my whole life and waste my precious time. [more inside]

Ethics and friendship: I lost touch with a fairly close friend about six or seven years ago; he'd gotten married, had a kid, moved, etc. We recently reconnected and have been hanging out. My girlfriend likes his wife, I like his kids, so all this is good. BUT...also about ten years ago, he and I happened to be competing for a pretty prestigious job at a major corporation - one people have heard of. I got the job, he didn't. There didn't seem to be any hard feelings; I gave him some (lucrative) freelance work, maybe a little out of guilt, but mostly because he was really good. He did great work, and continued to do so on freelance projects until I left the job a couple of years later... [more inside]

I am a really terrible person. I lie to everyone I know, I cheat on people relentlessly, I drink excessively and do things to hurt just about everyone I know. I hate doing these things in retrospect but when it's happening, all I can focus on is how it's benefitting me at the moment.
How do I go from being an asshole who's only concern is his own self interests to being a regular human being who concerns himself with those around him? I'm afraid that if I don't fix this soon, I'm going to lose everyone in my life.

I'm compiling a list of good, decent, honest men and women who aren't saintly, moralistic or freakish and do their jobs in a professional, hard-hitting and yet fundamentally human and gregarious way. The best example of the kind of person I'm looking for is Tim Russert. [More inside.] [more inside]
