Good place to get super-8mm home movies put on DVDs in NYC?

Lots of home movies, some are super-8, some are tapes, some are mini-DV tapes, etc. I'd like to get them put on DVDs that I can then easily edit. I'm in Manhattan, NYC. thanks (oh a long time ago there was another question like this and somebody suggested a mail-order place, but I don't feel comfortable sending off my precious home movies from the 1950s etc. away)

Looking for early footage of cities from the beginning of the 20th century (but as late as the 1940s)

I'm looking for early movie footage of cities, the kind where someone just set up a movie camera on a street corner and recorded people walking around. Preferably from as early in the 20th century as possible. [more inside]

No-Go Video?

Help me preserve memories and save money... I have several old VHS home movies I'm trying to digitize so I can preserve them and edit together the good parts. I used a GoVideo machine to create DVDs that are playable. But I can't copy the DVD files to my PC or otherwise rip them. I sent one of my tapes to a company and their DVD copies to my PC and into my movie editor without a hitch. What gives? Do I have to suck up the cost and send the rest in to the service? Anything I might be doing wrong?

Professional transfer of 16mm movies to digital?

I inherited some 70-year-old, 16mm home movies (not 8 or Super 8) and am looking for a reliable expert to transfer them to digital video. Many vendors say that they can do this. Can you comment on any from personal experience? (I have seen this thread and the links therein.) Are there any issues I should particularly look out for? Thanks.

What's the best way to digitize and edit imported VHS video?

We have a few stacks of 80s-era VHS and VHS-C tapes that I'd like to both digitize and edit as a gift. Goal 1: Digitize and burn all footage to DVD for archive purposes. Goal 2: Edit the worth-watching footage into a small DVD set (the gift). [more inside]
