I have an overabundance of stereo/home theater equipment and I need to simplify. Is it possible to hook a second pair of stereo speakers up to an existing 5.1 system in some way? The receiver does NOT have a second zone.

Ever since the DVD age began, I've noticed that music and sound effects in movies are always WAY louder than the dialogue. It's really annoying. Will a properly configured surround sound system fix this? What is the right way to set up surround sound speakers? Are sound bars any good?

What can I do with a
massive entertainment cabinet after getting rid of the television? None of the local charities are interested (and I don't blame them). For reference, it's 6'10" tall x 8' wide x 2' deep, the doors need 18" clearance to open, the upper shelves are glass, and I hate needing to worry about the glass doors. All suggestions (kindling? cat gym? ding-dong ditch it somewhere?) on where to take it or how to repurpose it are welcome!

I'm getting a projector for gaming (and occasionally movies). It's across a living room, about 15 feet, to go on a wall. I've previously used just a boring office projector and that worked fine. I'm not super concerned about image quality; it needs to be good enough to read text on the "screen", but that's about it. Can I get away with an LED projector?

I want to learn about IP and Network integration for home theater/home automation. Cedia looks like they have
exactly what I'm looking for...but not until September. I'm reasonably computer-savvy and a fast learner, so my first choice would be a fast-paced crash course, starting right-the-heck now. In order of preference: Live in-person class(es), interactive learning website or software, book, non-interactive website. Also, location in the Northeast US is optimal but not required. Thanks!

I'm going back to school in the Fall for a 2-year biomedical equipment tech degree which will hopefully lead to a decent long-term career. Yay! In the meantime (until the Fall and during the 2 years) though, I need to make some money. I've thought that maybe A/V or home theater installation might fit the bill as something I have some interest in and wouldn't be completely dead-end. Is it a good job?

Is it legal to charge people to use my home theater (rent it out)? I have a home theater. It's pretty friggin' sweet if I do say so myself - gazillion inch screen, state of the art surround system, 12 theater seats, etc. I built it myself. I know that movies always have those warnings at the beginning but I am not charging people to see a specific movie, I am just charging them for use of the room for a specified period of time.

Does a minimalist but high-quality stereo receiver exist? For me, the ideal receiver would have the essential inputs and outputs with a focus on the latest technology instead of every input for every occasion. It would only need to be 2.1 but 5.1 would be Ok. It would be beautifully designed. And it would likely be a bit expensive. It would essentially be the 'Macbook Air' of receivers. Does anything like this exist?

Are there any flaws in my home theater audio plans? I own the
LG 50PK550 TV which I love, but the internal speakers are predictably terrible. I'm starting from scratch with audio as I currently have no components. I was considering just a two speaker solution, but I've decided after spending the day browsing AVS that I'm likely going for a full 7.1 system. Price to performance ratio is extremely important to me though, I want something I'll be happy with and that will last, but I'm not willing to spend $100s more for minor gains. I don't have a strict budget but the cheaper the better (for a good product).
