Marriage versus home and parents

How can I deal with grief about selling my house?

I owned a beautiful new home for seven years and had to sell it this year due to practical factors such as distance to work for my wife, daycare, and so on. I am struggling with a kind of grief about it. The new owners move in today and last night I had a farewell party with some friends at the house which helped, but I stayed there all night taking photos and crying and trying to memorize every inch of it. I'm talking literally crying on the front lawn and feeling like I couldn't breathe. [more inside]

How to couchsurf effectively

I am leaving my place shortly and moving into a new one, however there will be a period during which I will be camping out with various family and friends while the paperwork on the new place gets sorted and I get some work done to it. What is the minimum of stuff I should take with me in order to live comfortably on someone else's floor / sofa bed / guest room, while still not taking up too much of their space? Also, how do I deal with the lack of feeling settled / not having my own space? I haven't done this for a long time, so want to go in fully prepared. [more inside]

Parents Won't Store My Stuff Any More

Kind of a two-part question: 1) Looking for affordable, secure, climate controlled storage units north of Kansas City, and 2) dealing with the illogical sense of feeling abandoned by my parents as they talk about being unable to store my stuff in the future. (Sorry, a bit long inside) [more inside]

How to take care of a friend going through a transitional period.

A good friend of mine is moving from their hometown in the east coast into a house with me and a couple of my friends in the west coast. We knew each other in undergrad and I made the move out 2yrs before earlier than her. This will be the first time she’ll be living this far from her hometown and as expected, she’s anxious, nervous, stressed about the whole move. [more inside]

Would you move here?

Registered sex offender in the neighborhood, would you move in if you had two kids under the age of six? The house is perfect in a very quiet neighborhood at the end of long mostly dead end road. He was convicted 18 years ago of forcible rape with an 11 yr old boy. He is now married and lives just up the road and I mean "just". I would love to hear rational thoughts for and against. Thanks!
