Should I have a rate card?

I'm doing the ground work in setting up a small side business. This business would target a specific demographic with a defined subset of residential design services. I feel compelled to do a 'rate card' but I wonder if anyone here has experience with using a rate card as a service provider. Trying to figure out pros and cons and whether I've missed something. As a consumer, I think I'd love to see some up-front rates but I know that, realistically, it would keep me from hiring someone if I felt like I couldn't afford them (even if I could). [more inside]

Can I make money off of a "newsletter"?

moneyfilter! I have a website that I started a while back hoping to "monetize". Well, I got lazy, and gave up. I was going to start a newsletter in conjunction with the site and never got around to it. But someone found the site, and the newsletter sign up page, and wants to distribute it to their clients (it relates to their brick and mortar business). The company seems legit. Can I turn this into a business opportunity? [more inside]

Home Based Business

I was looking online into some home based businesses. You know those things you read about..."make millions just packing envelopes?" Well, this one is not quite that. Ever heard of www.assuranceplus.net? They just called me and basically said that I could try them out and if I don't make the amount of money that I spent getting my business started, than I would get a full refund. Is this legit? If so, why doesn't everyone do this? Anyone ever made money doing this?

What are the advantages/disadvantages to buying a home through an attorney rather than a realtor?

Buying a home without a realtor. My landlord wants to sell the place I am living in (he lives in the lower, me the upper) because he is using the money to buy a business. He wants to sell quickly as the business loan is contingent on his sale of the home. The only catch is that he wants to forgo using a realtor by using an attorney instead. Has anyone here ever bought a home this way? What are the advantages/disadvantages on my end? Any common mistakes to avoid?
