I've never ice skated in my life. In a week, I'm starting lessons, in the eventual hope of learning how to play hockey and joining a club league down the line.
I am 39, 6'3" and around 250 pounds. My exercise regimen is walking/running 4-5 times a week, 3-5 miles at a time.
I have questions, as a total novice to on-ice sports of any kind:
- What is going to frustrate me the most?
- What is going to hurt the most (and how do I treat it?)
- What's the most important thing to remember, so I don't get frustrated?

I have approximately 3000-5000 baseball trading cards (and a few hockey and football cards) from 1978 through 1983. What's the best way to sort through them, figure out the quality, identify the more valuable cards, and sell them?

I'm looking to purchase a new hockey stick. My favorite shaft is the Louisville TPS Tricore 3 but they've been discontinued for a while. Do you know of a stick similar to the Tricore?
I want a composite shaft and I particularly enjoy the wood outer shell on the Tricore composite.
There are pictures of the Tricore on this site: http://hockey.inlinewarehouse.com/showthread.php?t=10557
As for me, I play forward, 5'7", 150lbs. I take the occasional slap shot but I'm more of a stick handling, dangling, deking, wrist shot type of player. I realize stick choice is a personal preference but I'm really hoping there's something similar to the Tricore out there somewhere.

Hockey questions: How do statisticians keep track of every single player's time on ice, as well as plus/minus, shots, takeaways, giveaways, secondary assists, etc? This question could also apply to other sports, eg basketball ("Wait, who got the assist on that shot?")
And how do coaches keep track of players' cumulative time on ice during the course of a game, and prevent tiring them near the end of it?

Earlier this summer a couple of sportscasters were talking about a baseball player whose career stats were revised (I think?) years after the fact because a diligent sports nerd went back to the box score, reconstructed the game, and saw that something should have been classified as something else...an error was assigned to the wrong player, or something like that. Who was it? And are there other examples?

I love to watch hockey at home, and I've always wondered - how many videocameras do they have running at your average NHL hockey game? How many are manned? Are some automatic? Do they have one guy just manning the net camera? Would they need 2 - one for each goalie? It seems they have a lot of cameramen - some to follow the play, others to follow any fights. I would love some answers from someone who is in a position to know. Thanks!

I always wanted to watch a hockey game from the point of view of one of the players. I've seen cameras mounted on the helmets of like, F1 drivers, but never hockey players. Does anyone know if footage like this exists? I feel that if I were able to see what particular hockey players are looking at I would be able to better understand the second-to-second decisions they make. Thanks.
