Inconsistent birth dates with my Irish ancestors?

I'm researching my Irish ancestry and am befuddled by inconsistent birth dates. When I compare my ancestors' Irish baptism records (baptisms being close after birth) to their much later American records, the birth dates almost never match up, being sometimes up to six years apart. [more inside]

What Happened To the Descendants of Famous Historical Figures?

Are there any published works that attempt to trace the descendants of famous historical figures, especially those we read about in ancient history? For example, Cleopatra had children by Julius Ceasar and Marc Antony. One of her daughters was married off to Jubal, king of Numidia and Mauretania. What became of their children? Looked at another way, who among those alive today can trace their lineage to the most distant dates? Royal families would seem to have the advantage here, but not necessarily.

Where is "Landerthal near Blaustaden, Austria"?

My grandparents were part of a group taken to Austria as slave laborers via the Strasshof concentration camp. The last surviving member of the group remembers their destination as being "Landerthal near Blaustaden, Austria". Does anyone know where this is?

Simainski? Szimanski? Simanski?

Hi, I am looking for the spelling of the surname of my great-grandfather. He lived in Opatija (Croatia) during most of the first forty years of the twentieth century. The town was called Abbazia then, reflecting the Italian influence at the time. Surnames were also Italianised; his became Simainski. I have seen variations such as Szimanski, Simanszki and various "y"s instead of "i"s. Since most archives seem lost in Opatija, I was wondering if somebody can point me to sources where I can find out more. Thanks! Marco
