I've been procrastinating about finalizing my travel plans and now find the weekend looming and nothing planned. I've got Friday afternoon to Tuesday evening to start in Eugene (mid-state) to get anywhere in a 200 mile radius to have some fun.
I love to mountain bike, be outdoors and get in the water. All else is optional. Not into campgrounds or crowds. The 4th is obviously a big weekend to travel. There's a lot to do here. What are some favorite places to get away and see some beauty away from it all.

I've bought a pair of what I assume to be reasonably good hiking boots for a
long trek/challenge I'm doing at the end of August - 100km in 36 hours or so, through the Australian bush north of Sydney (bush = forest, national park). Trying them out, eg. on a 12km walk at the weekend, they're quite tight across the toes. If I keep wearing them (generally around the place, and on longer walks) will they stretch over time, or should I buy a better fitting pair while I still have time to break them in?

I am wanting to enjoy some outdoor exploration this year in Washington state. The catch is, I have multiple sclerosis and my ability to walk is severely hampered (I can walk short distances- maybe about a city block or 2 at a time, sometimes I need a cane, but not wheelchair bound). Where should I go?

I recently bought some cheap ($20) army surplus wool pants to try out as winter rain & snow hiking pants. I took them out for a rainy Pac NW stroll and a sunny snow hike and they were comfortable but I was surprised by how soaked they got when they got water on them. (Granted I try to avoid getting them wet but stuff happens.)
Like a lot of people I've been wearing a lot of wool and I consider it almost a miraculous fabric. I'm a bit disappointed in these pants. Should I waterproof/treat them? If so, how?

I've been a quadriplegic since the age of fifteen due to a diving accident. I live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest with some of the best trails in the world-- the Olympics, Cascades and National Rainforest, to name a few--in my backyard, but I've never been able to experience them. Can anyone help with a reasonably safe solution. I pictured a carrying device with two poles and a
harness where two strong individuals rested the poles on their shoulders. Any engineers out there with some nifty designs or ideas. I am 6'2 and about 220 lbs in good shape and sturdy physique. I would love to join my friends for a hot brandy and stories around the campfire.
