Moments of poetic athleticism

Help me find video clips that capture athleticism at its most poetic. I'm looking for highlights that show an amazing shot, pass, turn, catch, jump, evasion, save that would appeal visually to a non-expert. No cringe-worthy injuries, sports oddities or bloopers, please. I want to help students get over the intimidation factor of reading literature by proving that while it helps knowing a little about the ground rules, you don't have to be an expert to pick up on the grace - excitement - power that makes one segment stand out from the rest of the "story." The tension of what's at stake can heighten the viewer's appreciation of a moment, or perhaps the moment is lyrical purely on its own. A little context for the clips would be really helpful, too.

How to go from black to blonde?

Halloween hair filter: How to go from black to blonde? I've got naturally super-dark black, shoulder-length hair, and one of my halloween costume ideas would be better if I was an overprocessed blonde (*cough*). Are there any hair products that could do this temporarily? Like a spray-on blonde? Also, I'm not totally opposed to being blonde-ish for a while: how bad of an idea is bleaching a top layer of blonde highlights into black hair? How would I go about it?

I have little sense of costs of things like wigs, hair bleaching, color spray product etc., so I'm interested in costs of these options, likewise, in making my decision. Thanks!

Natural-looking (read: undetectable) highlights in New York?

So I am a female in my 20s, just moved to NYC, and need to find a top rate hair salon that does natural-looking highlights--which, as all we women know, requires word-of-mouth recommendations. Please, beauty junkie mefites, help!
I have been going to O Salon in DC for years, having my terribly fine, medium brunette hair highlighted to a light brown/dirty blonde shade in tons of microscopic strips for about $250 a pop. The idea is that you can almost not see that it's colored, yadda yadda; there are no streaks. I also enjoy not having to touch them up for 12 weeks if I choose bc they are so subtle.

As any of you ladies who have your hair colored this way know, 98% of salons can't actually do this, despite the reviews they get on Yelp, Allure, etc.

Location, as long as it's within Manhattan, is not an issue. Price <$300 would be preferable.

Thank you much for your suggestions!

Hairfilter: High/lowlights in auburn hair?

Should I get highlights/lowlights to make a boring but practical haircut look more interesting? And where can I get a boring but practical (read: no layers, long, cut straight across) haircut in Northern VA? My hair is pretty thick, dark red/auburn, similar in colour to the wikipedia example photo. It ranges between gentle waves and a fierce frizz. Most of the time I wear it up, either braided or in a bun or a french twist. After it's cut it will be an inch or two above my bra strap line. I don't blow dry or straighten it, nor do I have any urge to do so. Similarly, I don't want to change the base colour.

I was thinking that subtle highlights would give the waves in my hair more definition without being too high maintenance, but I swim twice a week in a chlorinated pool, so... no go? Or are highlights OK as long as I'm faithful about putting swim goop on my hair beforehand and washing all the chlorine off right after? (Swim caps are unfortunately not an option, I spend a lot of time on the diving boards and they'll come off and generally be a pain.) Anyway, if highlights would be OK, what shade would come out... not orange, considering I've already got big naturally orange patches in my hair (yes, just like the picture)?

Or, instead of highlights, or in combination with highlights, what about subtle lowlights? They don't go awful in chlorine, right? Would they be enough on their own to add definition (especially if they're really subtle, which would be my preference)? What shade?

Lastly, where can I find a hairdresser who can do all of this in Northern Virginia (Centreville area, can travel, Fairfax/Alexandria/Arlington/etc. all fine) and who can follow directions about really not adding layers when they cut my hair? (No layers is very important to me.) Oh, and how much should I expect to pay? Is it reasonable to get everything done in one appointment, or should I get my hair cut asap and go back later for more interesting stuff? (Or just cut the stuff and then leave it the hell alone?) Anything else I'm missing?

ESPN football highlights music?

Does anybody know what those wonderful two or three tracks are that ESPN plays in the background while they go over football highlights (both college and NFL)? Or where I can find them? Thanks! Specifically, thinking of ESPN College GameDay, "The Blitz" with Chris Berman, and SportsCenter. Thanks!!

How to touch up hair highlights inbetween salon visits?

Is there anyway to touch up my hair highlights inbetween salon visits? I currently get highlights and lowlights at an Aveda salon every 8 weeks. I am wondering if there is any way I can touch up the roots inbetween visits so that I can maybe only have to go every 4-5 months, instead of every two.

Has anyone done this successfully?
How would I match the colour and how would I do it?

I am a bit worried I would end up looking all stripey or something.

How to get my hair back to normal?

What is the best way to get rid of highlights? I have honey-colored highlights in my dark brown hair. I am sick of the maintenance (time-wise AND money-wise). I have heard bad things from people who have tried to get rid of them by dyeing their whole head back to its original color (i.e., as soon as their hair gets anywhere near the sun the highlights reappear). Any thoughts?

Why am I convinced that "Highlights for Children" used to be called "Highlights for Kids"?

Highlights magazine. Has the title always been "Highlights for Children"? Was it ever "Highlights for Kids"? Okay, so I bought some Highlights magazines from a thrift store: issues from 2002 and 2003. I looked at the cover, and it says "Highlights for Children" on it. Me and another person both thought this was strange, and distinctly remembered it saying "Highlights for Kids" on the covers of the ones we read growing up. I am 33, she is 36.

Searching on the web has yielded no mention of the magazine ever being called "Highlights for Kids"? Was it a regional thing? Was the phrase used in other promotional materials, just not on the cover of the magazine? Are me and my coworker just totally confused?

Fascination with Brad Pitt's hair and/or hair colour styles for men

Late last year (November?) I saw Brad Pitt with a sort of patchwork of highlights on the cover of one of those major gossip magazines at a supermarket checkout. Which magazine/issue was it--or more to the point, where can I find an image of Brad Pitt with that look--or even more to the point, is there a more precise way of referring to it than 'patchwork of hilghlights'? Last time I got highlights (Nov 05) I got this whole barrage of questions from the stylist and wanted to just sigh and tell her I dunno, just splash some brown colour on my black hair, I'm just here to look different not to get anything particular done (I really felt quite out of my depth with the vocab of the affair actually). This time I want to have some specific instructions, and figure an image to clone the look of might work well.

By "patchwork of hilights" I mean it was like—gee all I'm actually looking for in this question is a good way to describe it, but I think it was like his hair was dark brown then someone took a blonde colour and dabbed blocks of it randomly around his hair--not just at different positions but at different depths too. I guess it's a fairly intricate thing.

Help me keep my cool hair color!

Help with hair color angst! Earlier this year I decided to get purple and blue highlights in my dark brown, starting-to-gray, slightly wavy hair. I originally had it professionally done and it looked great. The problem is the maintenance. If I don't refresh the color every two weeks it looks like I have a dead smurf on my head.

Right now, I'm using 'Color Jam 2.' If I decide to keep coloring at home, can anybody suggest other fun colors or brands that won't fade so quickly?

If I decide to go the salon route again, does anyone have personal recommendations for a good (non-traditional) color stylist in the Los Angeles area? Thanks!

At-home hair highlighting?

Any good at-home hair highlighting experiences? I usually get my hair highlighted at the salon, but can no longer afford that due to buying a condo this week (!!). I am really terrified of trying to do it myself - if it were just one solid color I'd be fine - and am wondering if anyone has actually ever found an at-home product that looks natural and not garish?
