Button be gone

Anyone know of a program that can hide Taskbar buttons in Vista? I'm looking for a utility that can hide taskbar buttons, but leave the window unaffected. Something that can move a button to the tray would work too.

I've Googled around and tried a few freeware and shareware apps but they either don't work at all or as advertised. I'd prefer free but I'm willing to pay for an app that works really well.

Thanks!

How can I hide files from a tech-savvy person?

How can I hide files from a tech-savvy person? I need to hide files from a slightly tech-savvy individual. Meaning going to properties and setting the file to hidden isn't going to trick this person at all. Would be nice if I can hide the file from being searched too. Thanks.

Btw I don't have an external hard drive to mess with

Please. Go. Away.

How can I completely remove the Windows taskbar from view? This is for Windows Vista. To be clear, I do not want to autohide the taskbar. I would like it to go away. Completely. I use Rocketdock and some other programs that make the taskbar totally obsolete, but I haven't found any way to hide it permanently. I don't even want it to load up with Windows, but if there's a one time hide command I can do on startup I guess that would suffice. I've searched and searched to no avail. Is there a program out there (or a Windows setting somewhere) that will do this for me? This seems like it should be simple! Am I missing something obvious here? Thank you thank you.

Lesbians in hiding! Where do I find them?

Where are all the lesbian yuppies in NY hiding? I've lived in New York my entire life, save for the four-year hiatus called "college." Considering these are the prime years to go out and explore, I found myself being disconnected from the city that I grew up in when I finally moved back here.

So here's my dilemma - I've gone to some bars and clubs (Hens, Catty, what have you) and 20-Something (unfortunately mostly gay men), and found that the lesbians I've met are particularly scene-y; bois, grrls, AGs, homothugs, hipsters, and everything under the sun except:

The "normal" ones. The illustrious lesbian that is comfortable enough in her own skin that she does not need to identify herself by the way she dresses. The lesbian who is striving to establish a career and a life for herself. The overwhelming majority of lesbians I've met have no real direction, and this is slightly unsettling (they talk big, but talk is cheap). I realize that I have only met a small sample of the purportedly large lesbian contingent in New York, but there is such a lack of resources to find like-minded lesbos.

Are there networking events geared towards lesbians in their early-mid 20s in New York that I'm missing out on? Most of the ones I've seen seem to target the older lesbian subset.

Application windows disappear when switching or opening applications

OSX troubles - whenever I open or switch applications, all other open application windows disappear. How do I fix this? I'm on OSX 10.4.11, and an Intel MacBook.

Whenever I have applications running, whenever I switch applications (either through cmd-tab, clicking on the dock or through Quicksilver) all currently open application windows disappear, rather than moving behind the application in focus. cmd-H (hide) has also stopped working - I can no longer hide applications by choice (it just happens whenever I open or switch). Also, the menu that pops up when I cmd-tab occasionally fails to register an app - e.g., I'll have Mail, Safari and Terminal open. I'll cmd-tab and Mail won't show up. Or occasionally Finder.

The only change I can recall making recently is installing Visor. However, I've since removed Visor (and SIMBL), and the problem persists. I've run Onyx and Cocktail (restoring permissions and cleaning caches etc.), to no avail.

Can anyone help? I just want my regular OSX back...

How do I establish a new internet ID?

For over a decade I have homed at a Mom&Pop ISP. They used to be good but now they are having frequent outages and seem to be soon to expire.

I guess I should move my email identitie(s) somewhere else but what is the best way? I actually like to use my real name in my emails.

But then again I have found that my "true name" (and email) can be harvested (either from boards/lists/whatever that don't hide it) or from friends infected with a virus that returns all of their address book to a spammer.

I've lived with a lot of spam for quite a while, but what is the best way to set up new accounts so that I don't receive it?

At this time I essentially have the real Mom&Pop account and a Yahoo account with a bogus name that freaks my mother out whenever I use it to email her.

How many accounts or layers of indirection do I need to establish? I'm not criminal but I would like to avoid over zealous responders. One guy I offended said he wanted "track me down and give me some violence." but luckily the board where I offended him would not give out my true name.

So how much of a setup of new names do I need?

Where's that flavor hiding?

What's the original of the phrase "that's where the flavor is hiding"? The first time I remember hearing the verb "to hide" used to describe "flavor" was in the episode of Aqua Teen Hunger Force (Oct. 2003):

http://www.tv.com/aqua-teen-hunger-force/revenge-of-the-trees/episode/271074/summary.html

What's the first known usage of this phrase, or more acurately when did "flavor" first "hide"?

How do I turn raw animal skin into a hand drum head?

How do I prepare animal hides for use as the skin of a hand drum such as a djembe? I am wanting to build some hand drums of various styles, starting with a djembe.
I have absolutely no problems with creating the drum shell start to finish and building a system to hold/tension the skin.

What I am having trouble wrapping my mind around is how to go from animal hide (raw, just sliced off of the deer) to something that I can mount on the drum?

Does the leather have to be "tanned"? Just dried? What stops it from rotting or turning gross when it gets moistened by sweat on the players hands?

I have googled around and have not come up with anything really satisfactory.

I just wanna hide!

I have an Excel worksheet populated with data from columns A through IS. I’d like to hide columns but I am getting the following error: “Cannot shift objects off sheet.” Why? The worksheet has tables of monthly data with summary columns providing the annual total and variances for about 10 years. I’d like to hide the monthly columns and show just the annual total for the first 4 years in my worksheet and am able to do so for the first 2 years (data from columns A-AH). But when I try to hide the data for anything beyond column AG, I get the error message, “Cannot shift objects off sheet.” I can’t even minimize the column width as a work-around—I get the same error message.

I tried closing the file and opening it again. I tried clearing all the data from the cells in the columns that appear empty to me at the end of my worksheet. Same message.

Why does Excel think I want to shift objects off the sheet? I just want to hide columns—the objects would still theoretically be on the sheet, non?

Is there a glaringly easy fix to my problem that I just can’t think of because staring at these columns and numbers for so long has addled my brain? Please help.

Can I setup a program in OSX to only run at login on a specific day of the week?

Can I setup a program in OSX to only run at login on a specific day of the week? I want to backup my hard drive one time a week. I like iBackup, its simple and free. I can schedule it to do the backup, lets say, on Wednesday at noon. No problem. But to make sure that happens, I have to set it as a program that will run upon login. I wouldn't mind this so much but 1) I like to leave as much memory free as I can, and this take memory up the other 6 days a week, and 2) When open, iBackup sits in the dock.

I guess an alternative would be how to hide the dock icon full time. But i'd rather just have it run from startup on the day I specify.

Thanks
