Is marijuana use something a surgeon needs to know about?

(Asking for a friend). A friend smokes weed a couple of times a year. They just smoked (for the first time in a year or two) yesterday, and are going in for a hernia surgery in three days. The hospital intake paperwork asks whether they use illegal drugs. The privacy statement specifically retains the right to share information with the police. So they'd rather not admit to the marijuana unless it's actually medically relevant. Is it possible that a couple of joints could have lasting effects four days later that a surgeon would need to know about?

I have a searing pain six weeks after open surgery inguinal hernia

I had a hernia in the left of my groin, which was operated on about six weeks ago. It was open surgery, where a 2-3 inch cut was made and then a mesh piece inserted. It was getting better until the last 2 days when bending over is now excruciatingly painful (feels like someone is stabbing a knife into my groin) and I don't know what it is. Does anyone know what it could be or have had a similar experience? [more inside]

So, I'm having inguinal hernia repair surgery. What do I need to know?

YANMD. But what do I need to know going in? What should I ask the surgeon? So far, it's just been diagnosed. It's not big, but it's gotten bigger over the last year. What sort of surgery offers the least post-op pain and/or the best shot at not having complications down the road? Thanks!

(Boston) - What is the cost of cervical disc surgery?

After 2 years of dealing with an insane doctor who told me that God and Tylenol will cure me, I finally got a new doctor who sent me to a neurologist who diagnosed me with a neck hernia or rather, C5 C6 disc herniation. In addition to MRI findings, they also found out that I have Clonus. [more inside]

What exercises can someone with cervical disc herniation (c3-c6) do?

After a nightmare MRI experience sometime in 2011 I found out that I have a cervical disc herniation on c3, c4, c5, c6. The pain was so severe that I was unable to move my neck to right side without feeling like I was going to pass out. Now that I've gotten my first coritsone shot and feel alive, I would love to work at gym on strentheting my cervical discs so I can beat this problem and avoid having to marry cortisone shots for the rest of my life. What are some excercise machines and workouts I can safely use to strengthen my neck without damaging it further? [more inside]

Ways to improve a cervical herniated disc quickly?

I recently got an MRI and was diagnosed with a cervical herniated disc. Not much pain, but there is numbness and tingling in the left thumb, and very tense shoulders along with some other symptoms. It has been about 2 months since I got it. For people who have had a cervical herniated disc - besides resting and visiting the doctor, do you have any other advice for getting the hernia gone as quickly as possible? [more inside]

What's this mass?

Hernia filter: I have a protrusion under my belly button on the right side, almost parallel to the hip bone. You can only see it if I lean back, but then it is very visible. It's about 4 inches long, 1.5 inches wide and is spongy (almost like a gas bubble or bloat). It does not hurt. Hernia? [more inside]

How to care for my small umbilical hernia?

My doctor recently told me I have a "tiny umbilical hernia" that isn't worth a surgical repair. What can I do to avoid making it worse? (Abdominal strengthening exercises?) If I lift boxes during my upcoming apartment move next month, am I asking for trouble? Do hernias always get worse over time? Help me stop having mental images of sudden disembowelment.

HerniaFilter II

I was just diagnosed with an inguinal hernia, which I've apparently had for almost 2 years now. I know next to nothing about hernias, let alone inguinal hernias, and it looks like it'll be 6-12 weeks before I can get into surgery, and at least 3 weeks before I get a proper consult with the surgeon. I exercise frequently with weight training, cardio, and flexibility training in the gym, and am wondering what if any exercises are safe to continue in the interim, or what exercises definitely need to be avoided. Can I still stay in shape without making this thing worse? [more inside]
