It seems that "the girlfriend" is no longer going to go by that sobriquet. We have decided, after about 15 years of living together, to get married. I am as nervous as I could possibly be. We both come from two previous failed marriages.
OTOH we love each other so much, it's scary sometimes.
I'd like some advice from people who were in very long term relationships who decided to take the plunge. As well I'd like advice from people who are in long term relationships who think it's less than a good idea.

I'm looking to rent a house in Tampa, FL (to live in, not a vacation), but I'm not sure where to start looking. I see all kinds of listings online, but I have no way of judging the worth of these - they look like cross linking listing spam and they make me hesitant to trust them.
This is the first place I'm renting - everywhere else I've lived has been with friends and family.
Where do I start? Suggestions on people to talk to or places to look for decent homes for rent?
Also: What questions should I be asking prospective landlords?

Bookfilter: In 2007 I read the first part of a science fiction novel that I would really love to find again. I'm pretty sure the basic premise was that the book was a historical/academic biography about a famous general or other important figure in a future (possibly post-apocalyptic) America. More half remembered details below!

When I moved to Montreal about 5 years ago I signed up with Videotron as my internet provider. They had an "Extreme" plan that was fast and had unlimited data for a flat rate. I haven't really made much use of this package since I got it, but last month I ended up downloading a fair amount of data. Soon after I ended up getting a bill for over $800!

Recently I used a 4GB thumb drive to help a friend fix some partition issues on his laptop using Dell's Utility Partition software. It worked. However, once I tried to remove the software from the thumb drive, it sealed the space used by the software and I cannot seem to make that space usable again. I have tried using Norton's Partition Magic, Windows 7's Disk Manager, gparted, and a few others I can't remember. Any ideas?

All I can do is lend an ear but its annoying that my privacy is invaded constantly because shes totally out of it. I never had a private moment to myself all my life, that's a different story. Help me boot my computer, please! I'm running XP and my computer will no longer boot even in Safe Mode, after a failed firewall installation. I don't have the XP installation CD (my Windows is definitely legitimate), and worse yet, my CD drive doesn't seem to work. Would booting Unbuntu from a flash drive be my best option? Where can I find non-technical instructions for how to do that?
