Final-year Marketing student Worries

I am fourth-year student, soon graduating with a Marketing Management (BComm) degree from Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada. This University doesn't exactly have an amazing reputation, especially for its Business Management program...It isn't bad, but it isn't great. I think the institution is good and I enjoyed (for the most part) my years here. I'll probably be graduating with a 3.5 GPA. Tell me mefites, how can I improve my chances for meaningful, successful employment when I'm graduating from a university with a lame reputation, a less-than-amazing GPA? [more inside]

ex tried to kill himself and now wants to see me: what to do?

My ex attempted to committ suicide three months ago; I've come to know about this just today as I've been made aware of the fact he asked about me to a friend of his. I'm torn between not going and keeping him and our relationship in the past to protect myself or going and risking having him think that means we can become close again. [more inside]

Little hummingbird...you're not that strong!

A hummingbird is trapped in my garage...and it seems to be a pretty stubborn one. The real problem is that we have a fixed skylight-type window that it constantly tries to fly out of - it won't go any other way. We opened the other window and the garage doors, but it's just so darn stubborn! [more inside]

Just had my allergy breakout (Hives) and my face looks like a map

I have never had an allergic reaction before so I don't know what to do. I just had hives that lasted for 2 weeks. I went to the doctor and they gave me some shots and it was gone in a day, but it came back the second week - I kept taking my meds so the hives are mostly gone now. Some spots were still kind of itchy but its mostly just dark marks on my face. I was wondering if anybody knows how to remove these dark spots on my face because I really feel uncomfortable looking at the mirror and seeing myself like I'm looking at a moon. [more inside]

Best/cheap Pokemon title for Nintendo 3DS?

So I have never played any of the Pokemon titles, but they seem like something I would like. The game stores around me seem to have several different titles for the Nintendo 3DS that they are selling used pretty cheaply. Which Pokemon title for the 3DS would be OK to start with, assuming I've never played any of them, with bonus points for an older one that might be cheaper? Or should I have started playing from the first title and I'll be hopelessly lost about the gameplay now? [more inside]

Breast lump, no insurance, no money, looking for options.

Having found the lump a year ago this June, it took me until today to find the courage to try doing something. Many of the sites I found said to go through my local health department, so I finally worked up the courage to walk in today. They had no idea what to say, and no longer offer any program that would help. I walked out with a pamphlet for a clinic in another town that they think "might" have a program to help with a sliding payment scale but they weren't even sure about that. [more inside]

Advice for coping with abusive partner when I can't simply leave

My partner of 6 years is behaving more and more violently each day. The worst of it manifests as screaming threats to divorce me or hurt me, but even on "normal" days I walk on eggshells to avoid triggering my partners's sensitivities. I've fled my house on more than one occasion in the last month. I've called on about as many friends as i can for temporary housing, and I have no family left in this world who would care for me longer term. I can't just leave my house because I hold sole responsibility for the mortgage (plus the down payment and the refi and the majority of the income that keeps this whole thing going). Also, my beloved pets live here and if I disappear to avoid abuse, I don't know what would happen to them. "Just leave" is not a solution. What reasonable actions can I take to protect myself, my pets and my property? Yes, I have a lawyer and a therapist and neither have ever dealt with someone who is splitting from a partner that is so awfully mean, so I am short on constructive strategies. [more inside]

What is this splotch?

I'm panicking a bit, because I really want to wear a certain shirt tomorrow. I don't have too much time to do internet searching so I'm taking a shortcut by posting here. I have a very nice 100% cotton wrinkle resistant shirt. It's got a nice sheen to it. I don't wear it very often. It is an Easter egg blue color. I just noticed that there are lighter blue splotches on it. I have no idea where the splotches came from. It almost looks like spilled milk. I can't tell if the shirt was in contact with bleach, or if it's something else that doesn't want to budge. I've tried a bit of Folex but that didn't work. Are there any "tests" to help identify what the splotch is? Any advice on how to clean something like this?

Who has second thoughts about their dream job?

I really can't figure out what I want to do in my life. And it's scaring the crap out of me. At many times I really thought I knew what I wanted and then when I started working... I didn't, at all! I tried really hard to figure out what to do. I majored in political science, been involved in campaigns, and I thought I would just go to law school. But felt uneasy about the whole thing like it was just something I was supposed to do cause I would be good at it. So I decided to work a bit in a medical field, which was followed by living aboard for a few years. Now I'm dabbling in film and thinking about architecture. All amazing experiences but no closer to a conclusion. I feel super strongly about some careers and then realize I only feel strongly about those things because I admire the people in those fields and not necessarily the field itself. Does anyone have a similar story? Any conclusions? Can anyone help?

MacBook Pro Battery Life Question

Greetings - I "inherited" a MacBook Pro last year. It was a Apple MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz from Spring 2008. So it was 4 years old when I got it and I was told that the battery was dead and as long as I kept it plugged in, it worked fine, however, I would need a new one. So last year, I purchased a new battery and installed it. However, I am still noticing that the battery life is horrible. It seems like when I am using it to type a document or check emails and surf the web, etc, I literally can watch the battery drain. I would assume that it might hold a charge of about an hour and a half maybe? Is there any way I can "test" it to see what my actual battery life if? To ensure there isn't something else going on? Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks,
