Is there any way to make the new iTunes tighter and more minimalist? For example, I want my podcast and artist lists to be like the small-font, compact lists they used to be. Similar to the column browser, but on the side, NOT the top (which is all kinds of stupid up there). Basically, I want to see as many artists as possible with as little scrolling as possible. Any add-on or script or setting I'm overlooking that could take care of this, and perhaps other inefficiencies of the new iTunes?

Mail.appFilter: instead of deleting messages, Mail has taken to "ghosting" them, turning them grey. I've tried the
"vacuum" trick via the terminal, and eliminating the Envelope Index and reimporting all the messages (more than once),
as previously suggested - but the behaviour continues, and erratically, at that.
Any suggestions for getting Mail back to normal?

I'm trying to figure out my options for setting up a small digital media lab for a new non-profit, but I have no idea how to set a minimum level of server specs! How much CPU and RAM do I really need? What determines this?
The server will be used to administer local user accounts, and store files (including large media files). We may also end up using it to host our website and mail, if it makes sense (unlikely). All the main client computers will be macs, so I assume I should make life easier and just get an XServe. But I'm open to other suggestions.
See below for some prices and models for various XServe's I'm trying to choose between. How low can I go? How much CPU/RAM do I need?
Let me know if you need more information...

My Mac Mini shut off when the powerstrip got unplugged.
Now when I power it on it loads up the "Bluetooth Setup Assistant" and keeps searching for bluetooth mice - which I don't have any. The Dock is gone and the top white menu bar is only partially painted.

My brother is going away to college this upcoming fall, and for a high school graduation present, my mom is getting him a laptop to take with him. He is interested in trying a Mac. We are both life-long PC users. I am the most technologically-inclined in my family. My brother knows the basics and has no trouble with them, but anything more is my job.
