Why is Minecraft suddnely ignoring my mods?

I am playing Minecraft 1.10.2 with Forge installed and a handful of mods. Everything was working well until yesterday when suddenly the mods appeared to be broken and/or missing. Googling has brought up a possible issue with Java 8 (and indeed, this all went wrong after I updated Java), but I do not understand the suggested fixes posted online. Can someone please patiently and in simple steps explain how I fix this mess? My skill level is slightly above Potato. [more inside]

I need to feel like I can do something. Please give me hope.

As an American currently living in (Pittsburgh) Pennsylvania, I'm pretty sure I'm still in the "denial" stage about the election - beyond the intense sadness, all I feel right now is a need to DO something to counteract what the country is about to be put through. How do I help stop the hatred from winning? What are other people doing? [more inside]

I'm a Canadian woman, who is absolutely heartsick at the outcome of last night's US election. toilet plunger goes "inside out" - cannot plunge toilet

Help, I broke my original plunger (which I found out is a sink/shower plunger) so I bought the most expensive flange plunger the store had. I fill plunger with water, get a good seal (I think, can't see), and push down slowly, but when I come back up the plunger has partially popped "inside out" if you know what I mean and breaks the seal so I can only do one plunge at a time. I have had no luck googling. What do I do? How do I unclog this? [more inside]

The world is going to pot and so is my psyche.

It seems like everywhere I look today, there's negativity*. Racial profiling by cops. The Syrian refugee crisis. Syrian children dying by the thousands on a daily basis. School shootings in the U.S. Corruption in Haiti preventing monetary aid from getting where it's needed. And, obviously, the Great Orange Millionaire Disaster, many of his supporters and much of what they represent. Heck, even Kim Kardashian was robbed at gunpoint. I'm looking for ways on coping with all of this, because my hope in humanity is running real low. [more inside]

In what way is Android Device Manager wrong about my phone?

Android device manager claims that my phone is somewhere in my house. But when I tell it to ring my phone at full volume, it claims that it's doing so, and then...nothing. My house is small. Helping adult family with mental health

Interested in hearing from 1) adults who have suffered from mental health issues for most/major part of their lives (depression/schizophrenia in particular) and were persuaded* by family to seek help (aka go to a psychiatrist). 2) family of the adult who was suffering from mental health issues and recognised that something was off/not quite right/blatantly bizarre/had classic symptoms of mental health issues (isolation, hygiene, job loss, distorted thinking and more). Additional twist- the adult in question can't stand immediate family and is convinced they are "toxic". [more inside]

Moving back to my hometown - can I help my brother get out of a rut?

My brother is generally a caring, generous, talented, and thoughtful guy. He is also almost the definition of "stuck in a rut" - partially due to bad luck (recession), but probably more due to impulsive/emotional behavior - moodiness, impulse buys, little white lies, throwing his smartphone when angry, got a DUI not long ago, etc. It's hard to watch because he works hard (if very disorganized), is at times brilliantly self-aware. But can't seem to find his footing, and still lives with my parents. [more inside]

Should I speak up or shut up?

The baby/toddler next door screams more than what I think is normal

In the evenings, there's a deep male voice that yells, "stop it!", "be quiet!", "NO!", multiple times, and there are really loud banging noises along with this.
