I understand you are not my gastroenterologist. I'll settle for input from a personally knowledgeable fellow MeFi'er. Has anyone suddenly become unable to drink alcohol, maybe after a GI illness? Does this condition go away?

For the last several days, I have had the feeling that something is stuck in my throat or the urge to swallow. It lasts for hours and seems to occur after eating. Is this heartburn? Is it something else?

About two years ago I started having various health issues, and since then, it's all gone downhill. It's also become clear that I need to switch doctors, so I'm asking you, Metafilter, to help me prepare for the new doctor. What's wrong with me? You are obviously not my doctor!

Do my symptoms warrant a visit to the doctor? It sounds like acid reflux to me (so I assume I'd need an appointment), but I'd like your opinion before I go. Involves chronic coughing after every meal, lasting for at least an hour or so, and heartburn multiple times a week.

Do you take Amitiza? Does it give you horrible heartburn 35ish minutes after every dose? How do you control that? Zyrtec and Tums aren't doing the job.

My wife and mother-in-law both suffer from the same condition. If they don't eat frequently, they tell me they get 'gas'. Not gas out the ass, but gas in their stomachs / chests that can get quite painful. It is quite debilitating for my wife. When they get this 'gas' if they eat, eventually it will go away on its own or with a bunch of burps. I am not sure if they are calling it 'gas' and should be calling it heartburn, or something else. All I know is my Google-Fu cannot find anything about NOT eating and getting gas or some other painful belly / chest thingy. Anyone else have experience with this kind of ailment. Is there a name for getting 'gas' when you don't eat? Help me solve this medical mystery.

sometimes i get constipated - sometimes when i get constipated, thanks to a super weak stomach, i throw up. this lasts just as long as i can feel the rock of poop in my side. today is a particularly bad round of it. to complicate matters, i'm hypoglycemic and have heartburn from time to time. so, now i'm constipated, puking, shaking from the lack of food, and i have wicked heartburn. what to do?

Over the last few years, a number of health problems have flared up that I suspect might have something to do with each other: weight gain, fatigue, acid-reflux/loose stools (possibly related to gluten intolerance) and irregular periods. What kind(s) of doctor should I see? I'm in Minneapolis.

I have terribly painful heartburn. Less frequently since my doctor prescribed Prevacid a year or so ago, and less frequently still since I've been watching what I eat and losing weight for the last five months. But I still get a bout of it every month or two, usually hitting in the late evening, and keeping me awake until 6 or 7am before it subsides. How can I get some sleep instead of staying awake all night in pain?
