Can you have too many heart stents in place?

A recent heart stress test shows according to my GP that I'm probably going to have to go to the hospital and have another heart stent put in. I see my cardiologist this Friday for more details. I presently have 7 stents in place. I'm staring to wonder if there is a upper number of stents that a person can have on board.

Feeling and seeing a pulse in notch between collarbones? Is this normal?

I happened to stumble upon several health articles yesterday that mentioned that young, normal people should not feel a pulse in the little notch between your collarbones at the base of the neck. However, I can definitely feel a pulse in this area. [more inside]

Dad has heart pain?

My 58 year old dad has been having a squeezing pain in his heart. It has happened a few times, and then just goes away. He went to the emergency room, got a lot of tests done including the stress test, and they determined that his heart is healthy. He has healthy blood pressure and has a manual labor job, and so gets a lot of exercise. The doctor said it might be stress. Does anyone have experience with this? My dad is ready to just try to relieve his stress, but I am worried that it could be something else that the doctor may not have picked up on. Any solutions, including alternative medicine? Thank you!

Why is pulse taken at neck or wrist instead of the heart?

Why do we typically take our pulses at the neck or wrist as opposed to the chest or side right at the heart? At least from my n = 1 self-observations, it's both an order of magnitude stronger and easier to find if you just stick your hand on your chest and count off that instead of trying to find the right spot on the neck or wrist. cardiology/mitral valve prolapse questions

Recently was hospitalized for acute bacterial endocarditis. The follow-up cardiologist visit is summed up as follows; "..had his echo/doppler study performed today. It shows mitral valve prolapse, which is quite severe. There is a suggestion of ruptured chordae involving the posterier leaflet. There is thickening of the posterier leaflet and a very severe mitral regurgitation. His left ventricular systolic function remains normal and his left atrial dimension is only mildly dilated. At this point, we are going to manage him medically and further management will depend on his progress". There is no medication yet, and I am due for a follow-up visit soon. Have been researching; and also want to ask advice of hive, for areas/questions to prepare. Subjects include his mention of future possible replacement; exercise and diet for heart health; anxiety related to MVP. Help me focus on a valuable discussion with the doctor.

Preparing for a doctor appointment

When, if ever, is it reasonable to ask for a preemptive test? Given a family history of congestive heart failure I'm wondering how reasonable it is to reguest a MUGA or echocardiogram just to allay (or confirm) my own worries. I'm definitely already going to see a doctor, so I'm not asking for medical advice. I guess I am asking for perspective to help me frame my request with my physician. [more inside]

What is this bag? What is this logo?

The other day I spotted a very handsome shoulder bag of brown leather with a red stripe. I want to own one just like it. I wasn't able to ask the owner where he got it, but I was able to spot the manufacturer's logo. It looks like a heart, split down the middle into two lobes, and lying on its side. I've drawn a very crude version of it here. It looks faintly familiar to me -- does anyone recognize it? And in general, is there a good resource somewhere for looking up logos?

Purple Heart denied?

Is it true that a soldier, wounded while operating covertly, is not eligible for a Purple Heart? I fellow I met told me he was Special Forces and was shot through the arm while patrolling a communist border in '83, someplace the government would later deny being. He didn't recieve his Purple Heart because the mission was top secret and would have to be revealed on the paperwork required to apply for the medal. Is he pulling my leg, or what?
