I miss my country's healthcare system

I'm a grad student in Massachusetts. My school-sponsored health insurance is terrible. The maximum benefit limit is 75,000$ and covers only 80% in-network, 60% out-of-network. I'm poor, but since I'm from abroad, none of the state-supported programs will help. What are my options? [more inside]

How would a big HMO like Kaiser handle a pandemic?

I'm sure Kaiser Permanente and other major HMOs have plans related to a potential pandemic, and how they would try to protect their customers' health and/or minimize financial losses. Have the plans themselves been published or leaked? Has anything summarizing those plans been published anywhere?

Help me pay 12 months of premiums for 3 months of coverage

I live overseas for 10 months a year. I am finding it very difficult to get health insurance. No preexisting conditions, no smoking, not obese, but I am only barely a resident of California, and this seems to be a tripping point. All I want is a basic, high deductible plan for emergencies. I am currently covered in Virginia (from a while back, never told them I moved), but since my residency is California now, they probably won't cover me. What are my options? I just spent 4 hours on applications and was turned down every time. Everything else I see on google looks dodgy.

I should have moved to Canada while I still could

I just found out that in six months, I'm going to lose my student health insurance. There's no COBRA on student insurance, as far as I can tell. I have a pre-existing condition of a sort that will, I think, totally rule out getting private insurance. Assuming that I don't find a job with benefits, is there any way that I can stay insured? If this is a huge priority, which it is, then are there better or worse states for me to move to in order to maintain my insurance status? How on earth do I figure out how to negotiate this mess?
