Drug interactions while taking Mobic (meloxicam)?

What's Kangen Water?

My wife has signed up to join an MLM network selling a device called a LeveLuk SD501, which produces 'Kangen' water. I think this thing is worthless for health purposes. I'm keeping an open mind but we're talking $5k to buy one of these things and I think it's a waste. I'm wondering what the hive mind comes up with. [more inside]

Can I safely use Listerine while on Antabuse?

Can I safely use Listerine while on Antabuse? My doctor advised me to avoid alcohol in shampoos and deodorants and I have even read some warnings against inhaling alcohol vapors. My doctor had a sort of a shoulder-shrug response when I asked about Listerine. Other opinions or experiences would be very welcome as I'd rather not use a "try and see" approach.

Body punishes red meat & sodium consumption

Friend'sHealthFilter: Red meat and moderately high sodium foods make him really fatigued/tired/groggy for 1-2 days after consumption. Chicken/fish/eggs doesn't provoke this problem, so I'm not sure that it's a high-protein foods issue. Any ideas why this occurs, and how to rectify this problem?

California legal/medical/ethical question: In advance of my going to the hospital to give birth within the next few weeks, I decided to download and fill out California's standard Advance Health Care Directive form, i.e. a living will (and to have my husband fill his out too, as long as we were at it). However, Google informs me via multiple sources that this form, even if signed and notarized, is "not valid if pregnant". WTF? [more inside]

What to say to an institutionalized friend?

In high school I was involved in a nerdy extracurricular activity that occupied most of my time, and when I graduated most of my friends went to school A to study our field and I went to School B. One the friends I made through this association has, I've recently been informed, checked himself into a hospital for mental health reasons. He had already decided not to go back to university this semester (we attend different schools, so I found this out second hand). He had had issues in high school, but it sounds as though things have deteriorated dramatically. He is a brilliant person, and my life has been better for knowing him. I'm going to send an email to a relative of his that I think can get it to him for me. What do I say? [more inside]

What is the cause of this muscle condition?

Diagnose this muscle condition; my physician cannot. For the last four months my fiancée has suffered from a so-far-unexplained muscle soreness. We are about to see our third specialist, as every doctor so far has drawn a blank. Before our upcoming appointment with the next rheumatologist, I thought it couldn’t hurt to post the question here. First I’ll describe the symptoms, then I’ll cross off the list all those conditions that various tests have shown not to be the cause. (more) [more inside]

Extremely minimal workout

My question is pretty simple. Is it possible to get definition and tone using only push-ups and crunches? I cycle everyday for cardio (and practicality), but I'm looking to work my upper body more without investing in a gym membership or weights. Basically I'm looking for a good toning/muscle-building workout using nothing other than my own body. If this is possible, does anyone have some good routines to suggest?

Thoughts on ribs showing in dog? (read full post before freaking out!)

So i'm trying to solicit some unbiased thoughts and opinions on the subject. A lab mix - probably greyhound or wippet, maybe even dalmatian, with some ribs showing, slight backbone showing, and super muscular. Dog is very active, hikes and runs, climbs 14,000 mountains in colorado, etc - all with no problem. Eats usually 2 to 3 cups of quality dog food, lately part raw too - on more active day will get slightly more food. Healthy or not? I know general consensus is you should be able to feel ribs but not see, but should that really apply across the board?
