What does my body do with the water I drink?

What happens to the drinking water I swallow? All I know is that it goes down my throat to my stomach, and then my body does its thing. Can you go into greater detail for me? For example: What positive effects does the water I drink have on my mouth, my throat, my stomach and other parts of my body? How does the stomach process the water? Where does the water go after my stomach? How does what's in the water get from my stomach to the necessary parts of my body? What's in water that my body needs? What parts of my body benefit the most from the water I drink? Feel free to answer other relevant questions that I've overlooked.

Why am I dehydrated?

The last few years it seems I've had to drink more water to stay hydrated; I drink, on average, 3.5 liters a day (0.92 gallons), more if I exercise, and still I'll wake up with a mild headache and mild nausea from dehydration about two days a week. [more inside]

Engineering design mistake

I can't find a Wikipedia page I saw a while back. It was about a sort of design error or cognitive bias whereby designers or engineers reject as irrelevant (or are unaware of) a relevant factor in the requirements of a design because it is outside of their field. It gave an example which was about designing and providing water supplies in Africa. There were known ways to prevent a certain disease in the water, but the engineers were not familiar with them, so the disease spread.

I would like to obey my thirst, but...

I would like to obey my thirst, but... I recently realised I don't seem to get thirsty when I should. I had to take a tablet and grabbed a glass of water to do so. As soon as I began drinking I felt desperately thirsty and drank a second glass. But I swear if you'd asked me a minute before, I'd have said I wasn't thirsty. In this thread, people are saying it's healthy to drink before you start feel thirst. But I don't seem to feel it much at all. [more inside]

Tap water question

This morning while cleaning the crock pot, I noticed that the baking soda I was using was foaming up, as if i had added an acid like vinegar. So, I poured some baking soda in a clean bowl, to see if it was the water. It foamed! Is there a reason my tap water would be so acid? The only thing I found on the internet was a vague suggestion the chlorine can cause acidity in the water. [more inside]

Rationale for access to water at Middle School

What should I put in my hot water?

My watercooler at work has a hot water feature which I would like to take advantage of. What are the best healthy substantial "meals" that require me only to add hot water? (Relevant info: At a cafe I used to frequent, there were packets of Bear Naked blueberry oatmeal that were outstanding. Now, Bear Naked's site doesn't list this as one of their products. Does this product still exist? I don't like Quaker Oats.)
