... the hospital. On the 16th I left my house to go to work and got a surprise phone call from my doctor to go to the ER based on some test results. Now that I've been trapped in a tiny room, sleep deprived, monitored, scrutinized and terrified for 2 weeks, how can I adjust to Normal life again? [more inside]

What are these amazing 67 vaccines?

I was chatting with someone who was anti-vaccine the other day in relation to the new California law, and she was telling me that there were now 67 vaccines that children had to take. What's going on? How can we best enjoy sex?

Bleach Everywhere; Worried About Fetus, Cat, Plants

Sciatic nerve pain: Any advice?

YANMD; I am seeing my doctor about this, but I'd be grateful for any wisdom from the hivemind. For a long time, I've been fairly physically active without suffering any significant problems or injuries. I'm 38 and have been going to the gym about 3 times a week since my 20s, and I go hillwalking regularly. In January of this year, I started to experience pain and stiffness in my lower back. I went to my doctor, who referred me to a physiotherapist. After a couple of sessions with the physio, the stiffness went and I got a good range of movement back, but I started to experience much sharper pain in my right thigh, of the classic sciatic nerve variety. How bad is lying down compared to sitting?

This question is directed towards anyone with a medical background. I've read a few articles online that talk about how bad sitting is for health, but I couldn't find much on the detrimental effects of lying down when compared to sitting. How can my father regain his mobility?

My father, 57 years old, recently had C3 C4 spinal surgery to correct spinal stenosis. As I understand it, there was a narrowing of his spinal cord which prevented spinal fluid and motorneurons from moving freely so before the surgery, he was experiencing loss of feeling in his hand, had an uneven gate, began to have trouble moving his legs and fingers, especially after periods of rest. He was told that some patients regain almost all of their previous ability, but that most experience an end to the decline and regain some percentage of their prior ability. [more inside]
