I broke my tailbone, and have questions about FMLA, short-term disability, choosing the right doctor to help me file for either, and how they affect my chances at future employment. I have Carefirst Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance through my employer. In two days I will be taking a series of flights to travel from Australia to Europe for a very much needed month long break. Unfortunately I have a bad cold, secondary infections in my throat and sinuses and generally feel like crap. Given that 27 hours of travel time is not likely to be kind to me, how can I avoid turning up in Edinburgh in even worse shape?

I have recently
lost my health insurance. While it is possible I will be reinstated to
the plan I lost, which is provided in conjunction with my school, I need to be insured again ASAP, and I don't mind the possibility of doubling up on insurance for a short period of time. New Yorkers, do you know of any affordable (<$500 or so per month) plans I might be eligible for? I am a full time college student.

I have
De Quervain’s tenosynovitis. I have to wear a brace on my wrist for the next long while.
All the braces I've found are hideous and scream "SMPA is injured and has no style," which is taking me right back to that time when I was a kid in school and I'm
hating it (and don't get me started on the bowling jokes at work.)
Are there functional yet cute or pretty braces out there? What is the solution to this, besides "suck it up, you should have paid more attention to ergonomics?"

AskMe: we need help. My girlfriend just found out that her health insurance was terminated for non-payment (she thought she had paid it, and when I get home this evening we'll double-check our accounts to see what happened.) Whether the error was hers or the insurance company's, the company has stated that it'll take them 10-14 days to know whether or not they can reinstate the plan regardless. She has a pre-existing condition (ADHD), so consistent coverage is very important - and Ms. MP is starting to freak out. What's our next move, and how do we get through this?

A while ago, I saw this great BMI calculator that had accompanying picture of simulating body which, through a slider (?) could change from "fat" to "muscular". I found that I could reproduce fairly accurately the shape of my body (including the dreaded fat bulges...) with it and found it much more useful to see what I should target for. Unfortunately I can't find it again amongst the morass ... Surely AskMeFi sleuths can find it!
