Optimal OGG to MP3 encoding for quality vs. file size?

Allow me to lull you in to trance-like state of relaxation

I have a very busy, hard to shut up brain and falling (and staying) asleep has always been a problem for me. A few months ago I came across the guided relaxation/hypnosis/meditation programs by Andrew Johnson in the google play store and started listening to them in bed as I fall asleep. They are wonderful. I want more, and I want to be able to do this more comfortably. [more inside]

Good headphones (nothing more, nothing less)

I (project manager) work together with my wife (film editor) in a shared office. I like music while I work and she doesn't. One of us needs to be able to hear and respond to the real world, while the other needs not know it even exists. What headphones would be best placed to provide a high level of audio isolation, given the nature of sound in film editing (sometimes quiet), be comfortable for long periods and have a good audio range?

Sonic Masterpiece Albums

With Fall around the corner I am looking for some new music to drive to and take long walks with. I listen to a lot of music but find myself returning to many of the same records. Most are sonically complex and feature lots of layers. I like the fact that I feel like I hear something new after the 1000th listen of the Fragile. What albums sound as good to you after the 100th listen as they did when it was new? [more inside]

I saw some headphones which sit in the ear, but allow other sound ...

You know those earpieces on curly cabling you always see agents wear in films? I've seen someone advertising them for connecting to a phone or MP3 player. I have hearing aids with a similar design, and I find them both comfortable and useful. Can anyone help me find them again? They don't fill the whole ear, and just sit inside the outer canal ... I cycle a lot in central London, so being able to hear other stuff is pretty handy!

Cheap Over the Ear Headphones that Keep My Music In

That headline may sound confusing. I need headphones in a small congested shared work environment. The headphones need to be visibly prominent on my head & over the ear ONLY because folks realize I am working and don't bug me. Problem is, the nicely rated pair I bought from Sony on the cheap (and not too bad for usual user nor the price) blare the music out to those around me. [more inside]

Earphones: Am I doin' it wrong?

EarPhoneFilter: I used to have absolutely amazing in-ear earphones years ago before an associate broke them and I missed the really awesome experience of having super high quality music... so as per an audiophile friend's recommendation recently bought what were supposed to be an absolutely amazing pair to top any other in its price range, Ultimate Ears Triple.fi 10. However, I have had absolutely no luck with them so far and have sort-of been missing my free Samsung Galaxy SIII earbuds? Is there any way I could be... cripes, using them wrong? Is it possible to use earphones... wrongly? Has anyone had any experience with this particular model? Do I have a dud pair? Help! [more inside]

Whats the best Headphones for my son who just joined the Marines?

My son is in Camp Pendleton in Boot Camp right now for the Marines. I'm thinking I want to buy him some awesome high quality over the ear headphones that sound great and can take a beating(because they will). A warranty would be great. What are some good sounding Marine proof Headphones. These will take lots of Abuse. He's not too picky, but I want something that will last him the next 4 years, and he can use for his music, videos, and Skypeing back home. I'm looking to spend under $200.00, that is my budget..(He graduates Sept 6th, so any advice would be awesome)

Good headphones for blocking out all work chatter

I'm currently working in a smallish office where people arrayed around a group of tables chat to each other during the day. I'm hoping to find very comfortable headphones for listening to music (mostly just soft wordless music - my base station is Pandora's 'classical for studying' station) that will let me not hear voices, but also will not leak and be obnoxious for my colleagues. How can I get my earbuds to last longer than 3 months before they break?

I replaced my earbud headphones for the third time in six months yesterday. I'm not particularly rough on them (I don't think), yet after three months, inevitably one of the ears will get all static-y and then completely die about a day later. I'm buying pretty mid-range headphones and while they're not amazing, they should bloody last longer than three months. So what is it that I am doing that's apparently so beyond the wear and tear expected of these headphones? Is it how I'm wrapping the cord? Where I'm keeping them? Gah! [more inside]

TripleFi cables can rot in hell

I need replacement cables for my TripleFi 10 earphones. Problem is, the default ones by Logitech are kind of crappy, and the only alternative I see online looks even worse. Are there any durable, modestly-priced cables I can get that'll fit my TripleFis? Headphone recommendations: give me the sound without the research

I was at some live classical music the other night (Philip Glass, if it matters) and the experiencing was life-changing. I've got the music from iTunes but it doesn't sound that great over my normal cheapo headphones. I have never cared about audio quality before and it's not something I'm likely to get seriously into. But say I had up to 250 euro or so to spend on getting the sounds that's closest to what I heard in the concert hall - what should I buy or do?

Look for good but durable earbuds.

These earbuds are basically the best headphones I've ever used. However, their cord is way too thin, and I've broken at least half a dozen pairs of these over the last few years, usually by having the wire tear straight off of the plug. I've never broken any other kind of headphones this consistently. These are my back-up pair, and are tough and sound okay, but I'd really like ones as durable as the Skullcandies and as crisp and rich as the Thinksounds. The 30-50 dollar price range is preferable. Any suggestions?

Headphones to cut me off from the world.

I'm looking to spend about $100 on headphones that deliver excellent music, and with superb passive noise isolation. I will mainly be using this at home, for music and movies. Best over-ear headphones for iPhone?

I'm looking for recommendations on great over-ear headphones I can use with my iPhone. I've been using Klipsch earbuds, but they don't stay in my ear that well, and I'm concerned about hearing loss, so I'd like to keep a small distance from my sound source. I've seen in previous questions that the Sennheiser HD-280 and Sony MDR-V6 have been recommended for general use. I'm not sure about the viability of a hugely long cord for using these while walking around, however, nor do I know if the iPhone could drive these cans. I'm looking for accurate sound reproduction (no pumped-up bass, please) and comfortable wear. I'll be using them both outside and indoors, but they don't need to be sound-canceling.
