I found a 1910 Indian head ten dollar gold coin in my childhood piggy bank. It looks like this. I have seen it listed online for different values between $400 and $1700. I am broke and (regretfully) feel like I need to convert it into cash. How do I do this quickly, fairly, and for maximum profit?

Our new, ten-month old adopted male (but fixed) cat does this (knead, get down on his haunches, and hump). Unlike the previous poster, however, he does this to our heads whenever we lay down. Is there any way to get him to stop? It's not the best way to wake up. [more inside]

i want to buy one of those heads made out of pottery that show different bits of the brain; i can't for the life of me find out what they're called, but you see them on telly in doctor's surgeries and they look mighty fine. anyone got any ideas what they're called, despite my rather lame description?

Is it possible to tell the difference between an old, long-standing injury and a more recent injury to the brain on a brain scan? Would a particular type of brain scan (fMRI as opposed to CAT scan) be better able to reveal the difference between the two? This question would be pertinent to the Peter Braunstein case: earlier in the news coverage, they showed Braunstein's brain scan on television, because the defense claims that the decreased activity shown in the frontal region is consistent with schizophrenia. However, I understand Braunstein hit his head while in custody, and I'm thinking that could cause a similar result on the brain scan. I'm also wondering, could a brain scan show whether he got dropped on his head when he was a baby and/or all three possible conditions and when, approximately, they developed?

Y'know how, in cartoons, when one is knocked out, particularly in a boxing match, there'll be stars floating around your head as you lay there? My grandfather said this was based on a real medical condition where boxers would see 'stars' of light in their field of vision after getting knocked out, and I need to know more about this. Details inside. [more inside]

I am hoping that one of the Google-masters here can help me where I have failed. I am looking for an old photo of Scottie Pippen with a large swelling on his forehead. Approximately ten years ago, he bumped his head during a game and the bump swelled to the size of a golf-ball... sticking out of his forehead. Thanks in advance.

My head is an in-between size. I want to shrink a fitted New Era baseball cap very slightly, by maybe a sixteenth of an inch. Google only seems to tell me how to avoid doing so, and putting it in the dryer strikes me as overkill. Any tips from the local chapeau connoisseurs? Or should I just put off my next trip to the barber's?

Does anyone have any secrets for finding vacation rentals? My family and I are trying to plan a trip to Va Beach or Nags Head, for the first week in June... I can search google and find all the rental sites, but I'd really like perhaps a site that might do searches for both locations and return the results on one page... or insider information, hopefully from people that live in that area, or do it frequently.

MedFilter: Is there any reason why, with an enriched blood supply attached, a severed head couldn't be kept alive? If so, could it be kept alive beyond typical life expectancy? The only worthwhile attempt at an answer I can dig up is this, but I imagine this question comes up in med school quite a lot.. (There is a particularly kookie book called If We Can Keep A Severed Head Alive.. on this topic but it's generally regarded as 'nut literature'.)

What's the deal nowadays with HMDs (head mounted displays)? Sony Glasstron seems to be the leader, last I saw, but I don't know if they're even actually in production anymore (they're still plenty available online, though). The Glasstron lacks any kind of API for 3D, which wouldn't be a bad idea considering it does have separate screens for each eye. I-glasses seem also to be popular, but from the models I've seen they seem rather large and outdated (and embarrassingly marketed). Has there been no progress in this category? It seems like an obvious market, and I'm thinking of getting one.
