PC/installing OS/Disk drive question:
Here's what I have:
XP sp2 & my software on a 20Gb HDD. All my documents etc are on a separate drive. I want to move my OS and Program Files to a new 120Gb HDD. If I just copy the lot over and change the boot dir as it boots, will all my programs still be installed? Could I change the 120Gb HDD's name to C: while I'm partitioning it prior to copying the OS etc over if that would mean that the software wouldn't need reinstalling? I hope this is clear...

I have a new hard drive that I have added into my system. I've partitioned it three ways. The first partition is what I would like to add onto /opt, the second is some additional swap (added with no problem), and the third is the one that I'd like to add onto /home. How do I make this work with UnionFS?

So it's come to this - I see no other option than to ask a "help me fix my PC" question. After some troubleshooting the STOP errors seem to have been resolved, XP now boots successfully but is excruciating slow to the point of being unusable. Details and specs below the fold.

HDD disaster! Almost all the data I own in the world was on a HDD that got dropped on the floor while spinning (the drive was spinning, not me).

I recently got a large Mac G3 tower and stripped everything out of it. Does anyone know what I could do to make it a true external hard drive? Possibly with 4+ hard drives in it? I'm considering RAID BTW.
It already has a power supply so I guess that is taken care of. Anything else I should be aware of?

Why didn't SMART warn me about my hard disk failure? It was definitely predictable: ominous clicking sounds were accompanied by increasing seek times. I was able to squeeze another week out of the drive before it died completely, and the whole time, SMART insisted that it was fine.

The Windows task manager tells me the CPU and memory usage by each process. Is there a utility that can tell me which of the running processes are responsible for current HDD activity?
