There is someone in my circle of friends who I dislike, and recently I have become increasingly preoccupied by that dislike, to the point where it's actually making me uncomfortable. What's going on here? How do I cut this out? [more inside]

I find this
collection of online critiques of Stewart Lee extremely funny (On Lee's own website). They range from 2 word comments like 'Sneering Tosser' to far longer considered treatises on why he is unfunny. Many of the longer comments are very reasoned but punctuated with hateful sentences like 'The c***.' Youtube
of him reading some of the comments himself.
The expressions of hate he inspires are hilarious to me. The range of techniques and expressions people use to convey their disgust and the sheer level of contempt and disdain is really funny.
I am looking for similar large collections of insults ideally directed at specific individuals, famous or otherwise. I am not interested in generic insults.
For the record I don't find Lee objectionable or particularly funny for that matter.

Over on reddit, a commenter said that they once read a "social science study" which showed that people are more likely to rally in support of a cause when there's a common enemy to hate. It supposedly showed how when people were given the opportunity to unite and campaign for a positive cause, they showed little interest; but that the presence of a hostil opponent motivated the group to unite and rally against it. Can anyone think of a study along those lines?

I have been trying to deal with the shadows, or dark reality, of life: sex-trafficking, war crimes, war rape, rape, hatred, familial abuse, child pornography; even the "lighter" shadows of infidelity, corruption (of the 3rd World and 1st World), hard drug use and dealing of financial elites, etc.; and perhaps maybe even more importantly: the lack of public-moral outrage that would seek to eradicate such an infestation (strong words, sure - I don't mean to imply I want a 21st century witch hunt). I seem to remember hearing or reading about an ancient society whose word for love was the same as their word for hate. But searching online I can't find anything like that. What culture/language was this? Or did someone just make up this story?

The shameful and shameless adoption of Prop 8, as discussed here
, makes me wonder. What happens if a legally married gay couple from Canada moves to the US? Doesn't international law obligate us to recognize that marriage? What about a plural marriage from a muslim country that allows it?

Man who was raised in a culture where animals are meant to be working on a farm and not kept for fun... dating a dog-lovin' woman who owns a face-licking puppy. I have a two part question, about mold in the US, in buildings and the like. I'm thinking of moving, and I'm also allergic to mold. So this is a huge concern for me.
a. What parts of the US is mold rare?
and b. What parts of the US is mold commonplace? [more inside]

Searching for info or video of a 1960s-1970s animated US-televised public service announcement against 'hate.' Angry man approaches viewer, head swells and three-pronged arrows whirl in his heart. Head swells and turns red and bursts as narrator says '[when you] hate, you only hurt yourself.' Possibly American Heart Association? Will donate $10 to charity chosen by first person to point me to correct online video. Many thanks.

I can't eat anything cilantro has touched, even if it's only a few flakes. In contrast, my friends' reactions to it are extremely positive, and they've described its taste as "bright" and "fresh," and it's commonly included in dishes in my area. I don't think it's just a food preference; I'm a big kid and will eat things I do not enjoy if they're given to me or if I'm hungry. The difference with cilantro is that it makes any food, no matter how much I like it, taste like it's been poisoned, and no amount of willpower can overcome that. Does anybody else find cilantro inedible, or know why it would cause such a strong reaction?
