Who sells French Toast (or similar) school uniform shirts in the summer in New York City? Looking for the perfect white school uniform long sleeve shirt to complete a costume. Something close to this. Girls wear boys' shirts in the movies, and I'm small, about a boy's size 14. It cannot have a button-down collar. Is there a children's clothing store or even a uniform store in New York City that sells such a shirt during the summer? French Toast makes a nice one, but three places on their store locator have been closed / not in stock. Would rather get it in person at this point, just so I can try it on before.

Thanks in advance.

Mefi political memorabilia junkies: Tell me what this political collectible is worth/ how I can find out/ how/where I can sell it! Denver and Rio Grande Railroad Special Train breakfast menu from 1948, autographed by Harry Truman I have a breakfast menu from the Rio Grande special Presidential train Harry Truman took on his 1948 whistlestop tour. It's in pretty much perfect condition, and signed by the man himself... My Dad gave it to me a few years back, along with a box of assorted political photos and memorabilia he had in his office before he retired, and I hadn't thought about it much until recently. I showed it to a coworker who has some interest in that sort of thing, and he was of the impression that it might be worth quite a bit...
Major news outlets secret agreements?

Major news outlets agreed to keep Prince Harry's deployment to Afghanistan secret for security reasons; Dick Cheney's hunting accident was kept from the media for at least a day... What are other examples of these government & media secret/blackout practices?

water and salvation is fairly old...?

I noticed some common imagery between Harry Potter and Princess Mononoke -- anyone know where it's coming from? So I recently watched the third? fourth? Harry Potter movie in which Harry saves Sirius Black from the dementers by conjuring up a stag of light (http://www.encyclopedie-hp.org/images/films/patronus.jpg) across the water. This image reminded me of the Forest Spirit (http://web.pdx.edu/~jwhip/anime/forestspirit.gif) in Princess Mononoke who has a similar beast-who-saves-you-from-across-the-water scene when he heals Ashitaka. Did Monokoke pirate this from Harry Potter or vice-versa? Are there other images of this sort in myth and movie? I think it’s evocative, haunting, and powerful – is it as new as those films?

I don't exactly mean water and salvation, as those are anciently associated, but more specifically an animal-god that appears across a body of water in an act of healing or resurrection.

(As is probably obvious, I don’t remember much about either mononoke or potter. And sorry, I can't make it link properly).

Crucio Bitch!

Am I wrong for being angry at my friend? I bought four tickets for tonights midnight showing of Harry Potter. One for me and a date, one for my litte sister, and one for my friend Katie.

Katie is 22 years old and very nerdy, as in Klingon speaking nerdy. That's cool, I'm kind of a nerd sometimes too. I thought I would be going with my long term boyfriend, but we ended up breaking up after I bought the tickets.

I bit the bullet and asked a cute guy in my apartment complex to go in place of my boyfriend. He is *definitely not* nerdy in any way, shape or form.

Since this is our first date, I want to do everything I can to make a good impression on him. Letting him know that some of my friends are 20-somethings that dress up as fictional wizards is not my idea of a good first date impression. Katie was planning on wearing a full slytherin costume, complete with cape and magic wand.

I asked Katie as gently and as nicely as possible if she would mind wearing regular clothes to the movie tonight (my date will be driving us all there and back). I even told her that I would buy us both tickets to go see the movie again on Saturday morning and we could do the costume thing together.

Katie flat out refused. "It's tradition!" she protested. I tried to gently hint that it was really important to me. She wouldn't yield.

I'm more than a little miffed. Considering I bought the ticket for her after she couldn't find midnight tickets on her own and am indirectly providing her transportation there and back, I feel like she could have compromised on this little bit.

So what is it- am I a shallow bitch or is Katie being unreasonable?

Bookfilter : Purple hardback book I read as a kid.

Bookfilter : I'm looking for a book I read as a kid. As I remember it was of a similar genre to Narnia books or even Harry Potter in that kind of escapist way that I find I loved to read as a kid... ...It was by an author called Penelope (Lively?), it was a purple clothbound hardback. The story comprised of some kids (possibly a sister and a brother) going off to some relative's house by the sea perhaps? I remember train travel being involved to get there. Anyways, the next bit I remember is them being on some big green field which they must have got to by going through a portal of somekind or walking through a magical forest. On this field there were huge snails gently moving along and there was also the occasional phoenix born from the ashes of something that had just been burnt. Unfortunately that's all I can remember but I would love to find it and read it again..help!

N.B. Penelope could have been the name of one of the characters in the book?

P.S. If no-one can name this book...does anyone know of other sites where I can ask this kind of question?
