My nurse, while looking at images of my lungs, said I should start playing a harmonica as preventive medicine. She's a very smart lady, so I got a Hohnrr Special 20 G cheap and am almost able to play single notes moving between all 10 holes. So where to go next? I'll be playing unaccompanied to an audience of livestock and dogs for at least two hours a day and we would like to build up a large enough playlist I don't start to hate the songs I'm playing. Harmonica hygiene filter: A few years ago I was given a beautiful Hohner Chromonica 280C. Stories of fungus buildup in reeds (and later becoming aware of certain facts about previous owners) led to doubts which always prevented me from using it. So, how hygienic is it actually? [more inside]

A bunch of years ago, on Public Access TV in NYC, I saw some old live footage of an electric blues guitarist playing with singer/harmonica player. A couple of times, the guitarist would play a solo, and in the middle of it, the singer would stop him by placing his hands on the guitar strings. It was amazing. I was thinking that in might be Buddy Guy and Junior Wells, but I'm not sure. Does anyone know who it was and where I can see that footage again?
About ten years ago, I heard a song by Little Walter that blew me away and I'm trying to find it again. The thing that sticks out most distinctly in my mind was a moment in the harmonica solo when he blows the harp so hard that something cataclysmic happens to the amplifier/speaker. It's a terrific wail, almost a painful shriek, and I would love to find that song again so I can hear that moment one more time. Any ideas what the song might be? [more inside]

HarmonicaFilter: I was just given a harmonica as a gift, but I can't even read music, and have never played an instrument before. Instead of selling the harmonica on eBay, I would really like to learn to play the instrument. Any tips, helpful hints or resources (free is best) are much appreciated.
Harmonicas. What do I need to know about buying a harmonica? Would a chromatic harmonica be too difficult for a beginner, or am I going to have to buy a few diatonic harmonicas? I want to use it to just jam around in the style of alt-country and the like. [more inside]
I've just acquired a harmonica and would like to learn some tunes. Any suggestions? I know how to read music, if that helps, and my harmonica is in C.
