Did my iPod Classic finally kick the bucket? It's a generic "Portable Audio Player" now, and Windows refuses to format it.

I have about 4TB of music on 4 separate hard drives. None of this music is currently imported into iTunes. I'd like to keep it on the hard drives -- and be able to access any of the hard drives through iTunes [i.e. the music from all 4 hard drives would appear in my music library but remain on their original hard drive.] What's the best way to do this?

MrR moved my music drive (to a larger hard drive yay!) and iTunes is not handling this gracefully at all. (He hates iTunes, will not use it, and therefore did not follow any of the procedures detailed in the answers to
this question.) The directory trees are all the same, the only change is the drive letter. How do I get iTunes to look in the right place without losing all the metadata (ratings, play dates/frequency)? (PC; iTunes does not organise my library; the old drive is already removed from my computer and wiped. Changing each file path individually is functionally
not acceptable (30K files!), nor is changing the drive letter.)

I just got my Macbook back from the Apple Store today after they replaced the logic board on the unit. I've noticed that every song I play in iTunes seems to skip. Finding this odd, I opened up the Activity Monitor and looked at disk usage. It seems like whenever a read to the disk is made, iTunes seems to begin skipping. Furthermore, I have the same problem after trying to play mp3's via mpg123.
I'm worried that the skipping could be a sign my hard drive might be failing. I recently installed a brand new 250 GB hard drive from Newegg about a month and a half ago, so I'm somewhat skeptical. Is it a reasonable concern?

A Google and AskMe search leads me to believe that my laptop's hard drive is about to fail. (Files missing, slow access, system running warmly). Yay or nay? Is it the software or the system?

iTunesfilter: I have the vast majority of my songs on an external hard drive, but somehow maybe 20 GB of songs have wound up on my Mac HD. I'm hoping to move all the tracks from my Mac HD to the external without having to re-import all my songs or have any broken links to tracks. Hope me, AskMeFi!

I just managed to delete my entire iTunes library. But I have it on my iPod. Problem is, the iPod is set to auto-update, and if I plug it into a computer with no music on it, it'll all vanish. Help.
