I backed up the contents of my ASUS UL50VT laptop in 2011 to my Seagate external hard drive using their Memeo software. In 2012, I connected the Seagate again and ran a second backup, and it created a separate folder where it stored all the new files I'd gained since the previous time. So far, so good.
Now when I try to back it up again, it has started from scratch--duplicating the entire contents of my 450 GB laptop to a third folder. I'm gonna use up all my hard drive space this way, stat. Any way to make it back up only the new files again, like it did before?

Good ways/ideas/tips for how to organize my external hard drive (because I put it off each time I added things to it...and now it's a hot mess). And ideas for keeping it organized when I add things in the future.

Reinstalled Windows, and now I can't read data from my external hard drive--please help! I accidentally left my external hard drive plugged in while reinstalling Windows XP. When I noticed that it showed up on that screen where you choose how you want to partition your hard drives and where you want to install XP, I unplugged it. Then I partitioned my internal hard drive, formatted and reinstalled. I didn't format the external drive (to the best of my knowledge).

I inserted a power cable into a hard drive and it caught on fire (started smoking and crackling). Now I'm paranoid about leaving my computer on. How often does this happen, and why?

What is a good external HD option for around $100 that focuses on reliability and capacity? Speed is unimportant and I am willing to use an enclosure/internal HD as an option.

I have a hard drive in an external enclosure. Recently, it (sometimes) has been making disturbing noises. Is my hard drive dying, or is it my enclosure?
