Hard drive recovery near baltimore

Can anyone recommend a hard drive / data recovery service near Baltimore? Or failing that, a non-local one / a non-spammy explanation of how to find such a service that is reputable and not too expensive? Perhaps a sign of the times, but google is really being unhelpful, and mostly giving me fake local ones that seem to be aiming to SEO-trick people who are doing the obvious searches into thinking they're actually local. Best backup solution 2014

I've always backed my files on CDs and DVDs, but a few years back I decided to go for external hard disks because they seemed more practical. I would love to get SSD external hard disks, but they are very expensive. I'm currently looking at cloud-based backup solutions but I don't really know where to find something of quality that is private and relatively cheap. Any ideas? [more inside]

Possible to rescue data from a Mac hard drive that was partially overwritten?

How can I recover the contents of a long-quiet hard drive?

What's the easiest way to recover data from a hard drive in a long-dead computer? I only have immediate access to a laptop; so I guess what I'm asking is if there's any easier method than bothering a friend to let me install it in their box.

b0rked partition table! halp!

I have a SATA hard drive with all my data (yeah, I was just about to implement a backup scheme with rsync...), and my Ubuntu installation shit the bed. I'm back up, but the partition table on that drive is kablooey. It is formated ext3, and I have little reason to suspect that the data is not there. Are there any good tools for restoring a partition table on ext3, or can this be done natively? Gparted shows the file system marked as ext3, but with a warning about not being able to open dumpe2fs. Are they all going to make fun of me?

So it looks like my iMac G5 hard drive died some time this afternoon while the computer was on and I was not in front of it. Great! I'm still covered by warranty, so there's that. BUT. When the hard drive died... I, err, may have been in the process of downloading porn through BitTorrent. (Nothing illegal, but y'know, it's porn.) Obviously I have to bring this computer in for repair, and will probably have to give the HD to some kind of data-recovery service, and so when some techno-wizard hopefully gets things going again, there that porn file will be, sitting right out on my desktop. This happens all the time, right? Are they going to be scandalized? (I am in NYC, so my guess is no, but...) What level of humiliation or other problems am I looking at here? [more inside]

how can i recover my data?

i lost a partition in a reformat, but the data is still on my harddrive. i want to get the data off. i have r-studio, but not enough disk space on the existing partition to put the other data on it, and i thought i shouldn't create a new partition to put the data on, as that could mess up remaining data. i don't have an external harddrive. is there any way i can safely get the data off? thanks! Can I get information off an old computer with 2 drives in a RAID 0 setup, if the new computer has a RAID controller?

My old computer died (complex, but non-HD-related). I've got a new computer. The old computer had 2 drives in a RAID 0 (striping) setup. Is there a way to get the data off them, assuming no possibility of reviving the old computer? (The new machine does have a RAID controller)

Hard drive woes

I have two hard drives: one with windows/software and another with all of my stuff (mp3s, photos, documents, etc). I was listening to music when it suddenly stopped in the middle of a song. The computer was frozen. I rebooted and my second hard drive with all my stuff isn't recognized in windows. No error messages, the drive just doesn't show up. Reinstalled windows. Still nothing. The hard drive is recognized fine by the BIOS. I was running XP, now I'm running 2000. I haven't cried yet becuase I'm not convinced that all of my data is gone forever. What can I do?
