I have a MacBook Air that I am considering selling. It has an SSD, and I would like to securely wipe it clean before putting it up for sale. I know how to wipe regular hard drives, but I've heard that secure erases of SSD's actually DAMAGE the drive. Is there a secure way to remove data from an SSD hard drive without compromising its lifespan/integrity?

Hello all. Whats the best way (fast, cheap?) to clone my internal hard drive to as many external usb hard drives as possible? (up to 5 at a time, at the same time?).
Can this be done in the same amount of time as it takes to clone it to one external hdd? Or would the internal bus choke on the data and take forever?
Is there even software that does this? Most of the usual suspects (ghost, acronis, etc) seem designed only to clone 1:1.
The default solution seems to be buying a hardware standalone hdd cloner for hundreds of bucks.
Thanks for any thoughts/ideas!

The current external hard drive I have is "WD' brand that I got at best buy and I'm not happy with it. I am looking for a external hard drive that is easy to use for someone not that great with computers and I can back up my computer with it, that has the ability to be encrypted, is reliable, is ideally available locally at a place like best buy, must have a metal case, not a plastic one (the one I have now heats up and smells like burning plastic) Also bonus points if it has a fan in it. I have a PC not a mac, so it should be for a PC. Also I am not sure if I want to but one of those large external hard drives you leave attached or the smaller pocket sized one so any pro's and con's of both would be great.

Trying to decide what to get, here. I've got an interal 750gb 5400 rm drive in the MBP that very occasionally throws up the dreaded "drive too slow" dialog in Logic at only 6 or 8 tracks of 24 bit 44.1 kHz. [more inside]

I have a 250 gig MacBook Pro, which is about 3 years old.
I have approx. 115 gigs of music stored in my Itunes library. All duplicate MP3 files were deleted.
That leaves 135 or some odd gigs of space.
I keep a large majority of my documents and files in a cloud service. I maybe have 5-10 gigs of random files I keep on my HD. That leaves approx. 125 gigs of space...
I know that the computer uses (and I'll guestimate 25 gigs for the OS & random program files I have on my system)...
That still leaves about 100 gigs worth of space un-accounted for....
When I open my 'finder', it tells me I have approx 50 gigs of space available.
I have downloaded Disk Inventory X which is suppose to give you a break down of where all the space is being used. I have also read about a program called DaisyDisk. Both seem to be reputable and popular. I d/l'ed DIX first cause it was free..It did the analysis....
But....While I have somewhat of an idea of computers, I am not sure what is safe to delete, what should't be touched....What if I delete something that has specs attached to files that shouldn't be deleted...Neither utility really gives me an idea of what is safe to delete and what should not be touched.
I know I must have a large cache of files and stuff that could be deleted....Image previews, etc....
I just don't know where to look. What is safe to get rid of.....Not sure what to do.....

Why is my wireless router WZR-HP-G300NH not mounting my USB External HD?
I'm trying to access my Western Digital My Passport SE external hard drive through the wifi connection on the router. I have it plugged into the USB port on the router and it is powering on, but not mounting.
What have I done wrong?
How can I get this to work?
Does anyone know how to go about accessing the hard drive files once it is mounting properly?
I'll be using my MacBook to access the files and would like to stream my movies wirelessly from the external HD. [more inside]

I am looking for 2T hard drives for external enclosures for my iMac. I'm interested in the Seagate Barracudas http://bit.ly/fhRdh4
We use them at work but there are some pretty bad reviews on newegg which concern me.
Has anyone used these that could comment? And if you have better suggestions please let me know. Thanks.
