Can’t use my hands and bored out of my brain.

Due to a medical issue (I am undergoing treatment) I’m suffering a lot of pain in my joints - especially my hands, and especially bad after intricate repetitive things like typing (my partner is writing this up for me). Unfortunately this rules out a lot of things I like to do and I need some more options to fill in the day. [more inside]

How to deal with arthritis when you work with your hands?

I started having pain in my right index finger awhile back and there was also swelling at the top joint so I thought that perhaps I had dislocated my finger. I went to a hand specialist in Manhattan and after a brief look at the x-ray informed my that I had arthritis in that finger. I work with my hands every day. What can I do? [more inside]

Protecting dry, chapped, bleeding hands from infection

So it's winter, and through a combination of excessive hand-washing and laziness, I've let my hands get dry and chapped to the point where they're developing cuts and bleeding. There are so many cuts, I'm not able to keep them bandaged anymore, and am very worried about infection (especially when I visit the doctor's office tomorrow.) [more inside]

if you like it then you better put a cream on it

What can I use to solve my terribly dry hand problem? I would prefer natural solutions, like oils (but coconut oil isn't working, see below the fold). I would accept unscented creams that I can buy at a drug store. I would rather not spend $45 per ounce of some lady cream at sephora. (yes, diet, water, sleep, humidifier. I'm on those things.) thanks! [more inside]

Three years ago, I inherited a solid Biachi road bike from my dad. I'm pretty into it now. I usually bike 50 - 100 miles on the weekends, but as that number has crept up, I've run into some some fit issues. Maybe you can help me out with some conceptual stuff. [more inside]

Hands shaking/tingling the day after drinking: Alcohol withdrawal?

I got drunk a couple days ago. Besides my hangover being horrendous (per usual), for maybe half the day my hands were slightly trembling and I couldn't get them to stop. They're doing better now, but my hands have never shaken before, and I'm worried that my drinking is starting to catch up with me. Would this be a reason to call the doctor, and if so are there any tests/checks I should ask to have done? Details inside. [more inside]

Evidently, I'd rather have mangled cuticles than sticky hands.

I live in a cold, dry climate and have cold, dry hands. I dislike stopping work to apply lotion, because then I have to sit and wait for my hands to dry enough that I don't gunk up my laptop. A trivial problem for sure, but does anyone have any ideas for particular products or methods for moisturizing hands in a way that doesn't make them sticky and lotiony?

Can I put something bad-tasting on my hands to discourage bitey cat?

I have an adult (5ish years old) foster cat who is very friendly and mostly trusts us (we've had her for over 2 years now). She's very loving but is very much her own cat, and would prefer her space be respected at times. I'd like for her to express her moods in non-biting ways. [more inside]

Any recordings of Beethoven Symphony #3 (Eroica) piano four-hands

I'm looking for a recording of the complete Eroica Symphony transcribed for piano four hands (or two pianos) with quality comparable to a compact disc. (To get a taste of what I'm looking for, here's a partial video recording that's quite good.) I'm aware of the two-hand Liszt transcriptions, and can recommend Scherbakov over Katsaris, but two hands are not enough!

What is written on the taped-up hands of mma fighters and why?

I like to watch The Ultimate Fighter and sometimes I see the taped-up hands of the fighters and there's something written on them in marker. What is usually written? Are those the initials of the person who taped them up? Why do they do this? Is it tradition? Is there a technical reason for it? I'm curious. Thanks!

How should I rank these alternative poker hands?

I'm trying to rank some non-proper poker hands within the conventional poker hand-ranking framework. I would like to rank them conventionally, i.e. on their probability of occurring in a straight, five-card deal. The non-proper hands are: (1) "Four-card straight" (four cards in a row); (2) "Four-card flush" (four cards of the same suit); (3) "Four-card straight flush" (four cards in a row of the same suit); (4) "Same-color flush" (all 5 red cards or all 5 black cards); (5) "Straight same-color flush" (a straight composed of all black cards or all red cards); (6) "Four-card straight same-color flush" (a four-card straight composed of all black cards or all red cards). My probability skills are "OK" (the odds for the four-card flush and same-color flush are straightforward), but some of them (particularly the straights) seem too tricky for me. [more inside]

Hands are either cold/dry or warm/sweaty. How can I get dry/warm?

Maybe its because I have poor circulation, maybe it's because of something else, but my hands are often cold to the touch. They're also often dry, or other times just very sweaty and moist (when warm). How can I find a happy medium where I can have dry yet warm hands? I'm not sure of the cause, but if it is poor circulation to my extremities, how can I improve this naturally?
