What to blend with new immersion blender?

I just got a brand new immersion blender. What should I blend? I've only ever made butternut squash soup and have never made smoothies. Any tips on the use of this thing and/or recipes? Aside from soup and smoothies, am I missing anything? Could I use it to cut up the butter for, say, a pie crust? Any tips on use?

Handheld Emulator?

Recently I have been desiring a hand held gaming system (similar to a psp or a ds) that would allow me to just play my N64 Roms that I play on the computer. I do not need any extra features, just the ability to play legally owned ROMs with a hand held. Anybody have a solution? I know that I can run emulators on the psp or other devices but it seems a like a waste of money to buy them if I wont be using most of their features. I am looking for a solution that would ideally cost less than $100.

Recurring appointments vs Outlook 2007 vs Handhelds

How do I stop the discrepancy in recurring appointment times between handhelds and Outlook 2007? They do not seem to be syncing correctly. At our office, we have four different types handhelds (Treo, Palm Pilot, and Blackberry Curve and Pearl).

All recurring appointments seem to be adjusted by six hours - if a meeting is scheduled for 10:00 AM, Outlook 2007 shows it is at 10:00 AM, but all the handhelds show it at 5:00 AM, and people get cranky when their phones do a reminder at 4:45 AM for a meeting that isn't until 10:00 AM.

I found this discussion on a Microsoft forum about this, with no solution.

I've spent about two hours on the phone with our cell phone provider, with no solution found.

Is there a fix? If not, what is your work-around for the recurring appointments?

I'm going to be doing some live/handheld camera work for a church conference next week, i've got the camera experience and know how to focus, iris up, bump the gain, white balance on stationary cameras, but haven't done a lot of handheld work. This will be used during concert-like worship sets, and high-energy crowd particpation stuff. Do any mefites have any suggestions for things I should try, pay special attention to, figure out prior to showtime?

What's a good portable console to burn my public transportation hours with?

Recommend me a (cheap) handheld gaming console! I currently spend up to 2 hours a day in public transport and my job involves sitting unsupervised waiting for the phone to ring (and sometimes I only rings about maybe once an hour).

So I want to get into some hand held gaming. Since I don't make a whole heap of cash currently a PSP is largely out of the question.

What I've had in mind was something along the lines of a Gameboy Colour, the retro (fan boy) aesthetic is highly appealing, and it's still playable after playing HL2 all weekend, since it's not entirely monochrome. But how does the Gameboy Advance stack up though? Or perhaps Nintendo DS? The appeal of the original gameboy format is there's probably a very large library of very cheap games floating around which I could play, heck even Pokemon would help me survive the weekend shift.

Preferably the games would be more engrossing and possibly even mentally exercising than playing tetris style games on my mobile.

A cheap hand held gadget for use in research?

Our research study requires subjects to respond to surveys administered at random intervals over the course of several months. We'll need to distribute some sort of hand held device. What's cheap, programmable, and mobile? Surveys will be issued roughly three times per day and consist of 20 or so text only multiple choice questions.

Here's a more detailed rundown of our requirements:
- On board memory capable of storing two months' data
- Method to transfer recorded data onto a lab computer
- Battery life of at least 12 hours (idle)
- Relatively easy to acquire (<100 units)
- Priced under $100 (the cheaper, the better)
- Programmable (please, no expensive SDK or contracts)
- Able to alert subjects it's survey time (sound, light, etc.)

I've looked into palmtops, but the entry level Palm, the Z22, costs $100 and offers far more functionality than we require. Older Palm handhelds often sell between $20 and $50 on eBay. They're enticing, but risky, as I don't know that we could find enough of any one model. How difficult is software development for Palm? Will applications that run on PalmOS 3.x also run on PalmOS 4.x? Is Palm the only game in town?

Thanks in advance for your help. It's appreciated.

My husband wants a handheld GPS for Christmas. HELP! I don't know where to get one, how much to spend, will it need tech support? My husband has a Lowrance GPS on his boat so he knows how to use it although he isn't good in other areas like using the computer or even his cell phone. I am thinking of getting him Lowrance, but can I go to Circuit City or Best Buy or should I go to a sporting goods store?

Good portable music composition tools?

What are some good portable music composition tools? I'm mostly looking for stuff that would work on a handheld electronic device, but anything that'd fit in a pocket or small bag is fair game. Usually I just jot down phrases in a moleskine or other handy paper. And then I rarely revisit them. Lately I've been dropping the phrases into Reason on my laoptop, and that seems to get me looking at them again more frequently, but it's a bit cumbersome without a keyboard, and plus, even a laptop is something you don't want to lug everywhere. Hence the interest in handheld devices. However, I'm also interested in non-electronic tips, and I wouldn't mind hearing about software that can run on a laptop if it's extra good at the musical sketchup process and not one of the biggies that everybody knows about (Reason, Logic, DP, etc).

Recommendations for wireless inexpensive microphone combos for small church. I'm looking for some recommendations for the best wireless microphone combos (handheld and lavaliere), or the best wireless system in which I can purchase an additional handheld or lavaliere and use it with the receiver with not a lot of fiddling around.
My mom loves Scrabble!

Scrabble help! My mom has become a Scrabble fanatic. I'm looking for a handheld version that she can play with when none of her Scrabble buddies are around. I'm aware of the games for PC, but she doesn't really like "the computer" and would rather sit in an easy chair or cafe while she's playing. The only thing I've found is the Scrabble Express Handheld that seems to be a bit dated.
Light, cheap portable video/DVD with excellent audio?

Portable DVD player, or video player, or custom-built Frankendevice, with VERY high-quality audio output?? Video quality doesn't matter (could even be b/w), but screen should be 8"+ and unit should be as lightweight as possible. For live concerts where I need to see video, just for my own reference, that's exactly in sync with my pre-recorded audio (so I would make DVDs or video files with my audio + the visuals I need). Laptop = expensive/heavy/overkill.

How could Javascript find what media-type related stylesheet has been selected?

How could Javascript find what media-type related stylesheet has been selected by a Web browser? I would like a particular piece of Javascript to 1) trigger after external cascading style sheets have been loaded, then 2) figure out, in some fashion, which style sheet has loaded (based on the media type, like "screen" or "handheld"). Essentially, I'm adding a lot of material via the DOM that I don't want cluttering up the HTML for handheld users, or the folks who have no CSS at all.

I'd like to keep this working with Internet Explorer, FireFox, Safari, Opera, etc. Using
:before
and
:after
to generate content via a rule like
content: url(somejavascriptfunction)
, then accessing that, won't work for IE 6.0.

I thought about trying to wait a second for the sheets to load (with a timer), then access the style of some element, a style that would be changed by an external style sheet, and then use that as a signal to see which style sheet was loaded. For some reason, I'm failing to access any style that either wasn't 1) inline CSS, 2) added by Javascript later.

Looking at the
stylesheet
object for the
disabled
property didn't work, either. althought A List Apart had something that kinda-sorta looked helpful.

I'm out of the obvious ideas, and my Google searches have pointed me mostly at forcing style sheets, rather than figuring out which have been selected by a browser.

Sync Windows Mobile to Mac?

Thinking of abandoning Palm OS for Windows Mobile, and Windows for Mac. Can I still sync? Please let's avoid a four-way fanboy war here. Just asking about syncing. As my reasons to stick with Palm OS dwindle and the variety of new, slim, and yummy devices running only Win Mobile draws me out into what once would have been sacrelige country, I'm also being drawn more towards Mac for home use. I know everybody has their sales pitches for each of those systems (and the sea of devices), but I'm not looking for that kind of input.

What just occurred to me is that if I go Win Mobile, and I go Mac, neither of which I've ever used, will I still be able to synchronize my handheld to my computer? My first thought was almost certainly not. But with versions of Office for Mac, for example, and all those creative third party apps out there for people who straddle the Mac/Win world, I figured it was worth asking.

Obviously I'd want to sync the PIM functions, but I'd also want to sync everything else, like documents, spreadsheets, etc, and like all the little third party apps. I'd want it to work just like synching Palm to Windows currently. Is this possible? Is it:
A) a built in function
B) a clean third party app function
C) an ugly hack function
D) not possible
E) other - please explain

By the way, I've never used Windows Mobile, but I'm assuming there's a large body of neat-o third party apps and a developer community and all that as there is with Palm. Right? An app for just about anything you can think of? Lots of shareware and freeware?

I understand that certain handhelds (the DS and PSP come to mind) can actually be rendered useless and unsalvageable by malicious software. If I bought a smartphone what feature would I be looking for that would ensure me that like a PC, I could always do a fresh install if things got too virusey? For more background on the DS and PSP viruses just google 'handheld virus useless'

Help me find a free Palm translator

Help me find a free translator program (English-Korean-English) for my Palm m500. Haven't been able to find free software, and don't want to pay $40 if the software doesn't suit my needs. This search is complicated by the fact that I'm using a fairly old Palm.

I am looking for a device for employees to record their hours worked. It would need to have the ability to denote which hours were worked on what particular job. I don't want a pc solution or punch clock on the wall. Is there a hand held that will work. This is for 4 employees.

Zire Repair

I'm in line to get a free Zire 71 - if I can fix it. Any suggestions where to start? [MI] First problem (due to its nature, can't really get to the rest) is that it won't turn on, and I don't know/can't tell whether the batteries are fried or just dead. Also, it's missing the cradle and pretty much everything else that came in the box. Roommates have other Palm products - would any of their stuff be compatible?
Have -273C experience with PDAs. Help!

What's the best Pocket PC 2003 software out there that will let me sync my Lotus Notes email/contacts/calendar with my Dell Axim X3i?

What's the best Pocket PC 2003 software out there that will let me sync my Lotus Notes email/contacts/calendar with my Dell Axim X3i?? I've owned a Dell Axim X3i (PocketPC 2003) for a little while now and I've found it's been collecting dust at home mostly because I have very little use for it at work.

This is because we run Lotus Notes as our email/scheduling/contact list/etc. at work. However, there's no easy (nor free) way of sync'ing my email at work with my PDA.

I've decided I'll probably need to buy one of these software packages to get this to work properly, but there seems to be a huge array of them on the 'net and rave reviews for all of them. But which one do I chose?

Is there a hand-held devide I can use to program quickly and easily?

I've never owned or used a palm-top or hand-held computer before, but I've always thought they were cool. Lately I've realized that what I really want is a hand-held commodore 64; in other words, a cute device with a keyboard, that I can whip out and program quickly and easily. The keyboard, and the ability to edit and run programs, are my two real criterion.

Does anyone know of a device (other than a PC laptop) that fills the bill?
