Worried about Significant Others Smoking

I often stay over at my girlfriend's condo, she lives with her mom. Both she and her mom are chronic smokers. Her entire family smokes. They both smoke inside the condo. My girlfriend will at least leave the room and go to the washroom to smoke. But when I go to take a shower I can smell the smoke strongly. Her mom will smoke in the living room while watching TV. I can feel the smoke in my lungs after leaving her place. I have a history of lung cancer in my family as many of my family members have passed away from lung cancer after smoking for years. My dad is also currently battling colon cancer. My dad's battle has made me realize that this kind of situation is very bad for my health long term. I don't know what the solution is as my girlfriend doesn't drive, so cannot come to my place often and we live 30 minutes apart. I want to ask her to quit smoking but I know how hard it is to do. It isn't my place so I cannot tell them what to do but I'm just worried about my health from second hand smoke as well as her health. She doesn't seem interested in quitting smoking as it seems like something the entire family just does. I love her but this is a concern for me.

I need to work on dexterity/fine motor skills in my non-dominant hand.

I have herniated discs in my neck that have resulted in some nerve issues in my left arm, with my hand as the latest victim. Specifically the last three fingers on my left hand have not been 100% lately. [more inside]

my thumb is hurting and the doc said nothing was wrong. what do I do?

my right thumb has been hurting on and off for years. it's at the basilar joint. I have gotten xrays and I was checked for rheumatism (which has occurred in my family) but was cleared. eventually, the doc gave up, stating some things just couldn't be explained. this is not good enough for me. Best Dallas thrift/second hand clothing stores

So, I need to start building a decent work-ready wardrobe and I wanted to try going the thrift second hand route. I'm a 35 year old male with pretty sedate tastes in clothing that skew in the heritage and ivy league directions. Any places in DFW I should look? thanks

Will I ever be able to hi-five again?

I injured my pinkie finger a year and a half ago and it is still giving me grief. It is now usable for most things, but if that side of my hand experiences any kind of impact the finger will be noticeably stiff and sore for days. (it's always worse when I wake up) Has anyone had a similar problem that got fixed? Like, really fixed? [more inside]

What´s the title of this science fiction short story?

It´s a story about a man who gets a message in his dreams coming from a civilization that´s living in a pore in the skin of his hand. He is told that every time he scratches his hand this will cause a catastrophe in their little universe, which has already happened several times before. Finally he agrees not to scratch his hand for a while.

Hand Surgery Part Two?

About 8 weeks ago I sliced the flexor profundus tendon that allows the tip of my right pinky to function. I had surgery and have now subsequently re-severed the healing tendon, requiring ANOTHER round of surgery to try to repair again. Should I go through with this? My paws are a disgrace. How to get lady hands?

My hands are a mess due to neglect. Dry, flaky and raggedy cuticles. I don't have spare cash or time for regular manicures - think my last one was 2 years ago. Can you recommend a good hand cream or oil that will get rid of my scales, soothe my cuticles and maybe even strengthen my peeling nails? My skin can be sensitive so nothing too perfumed but I like fancy toiletries so nothing too basic either, and I don't have time to make my own. Sunscreen would be a bonus. I'm in the UK so something available here or that ships to here. And preferably something that will fit in my handbag, or comes in full size and travel sized versions. I thank you.

Waterproofing a hand shower mounted on a bath enclosure?

I'm renovating my bathroom, and want a hand shower mounted in the tile of the batch enclosure, on a hose, like in this image. But it seems like water can get into the hose hole and then collect under the bath. There will be a shower over the bath, although at the other end of the bath to the handheld. My plumber is a bit worried about how to waterproof it. How are these type of retractable hand showers normally waterproofed?

Can you help me reduce pick-hand pain when I play bass guitar?

I've been playing electric bass guitar in bands continuously for about 25 years or so. The last 20 years I've been using a pick exclusively, and for most of that time, while playing, I've suffered bad pain in my picking hand - specifically around the base of my thumb and in between the thumb and index finger. It's kind of like a cramp that comes on about 5 minutes after I start playing, and can in extreme isntances result in me not being able to hold onto the pick. The pain subsides after I stop playing, but it's a serious hinderance to playing well! I'm in a punk band, so lots of speed picking. I've tried hand and arm exercises, stretching, upping my potassium intake (bananas and coconut water), repositioning the bass, and taking Ibuprofin before playing and none of it seems to work reliably. Is this something I am just have to live with?

Does anyone know what this medal is?

A friend of mine found an old military medal in New Hampshire. It appears to be made of tin or some other light metal and handmade. The first part is a twig attached to a decoration, and the second part is arrows in a pouch. I put video on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlPqFhq6xdY . The audio is from Lost, which was playing when I did the video. Does anyone know what these medals are?
