Beyond the pink daisy shaver...

I need a razor that won't get clogged with hair. I've combed (har har) through all the Ask Metafilter questions about razors, shaving, etc, but did not find the answers I seek.

I'm a female who lets my body hair grow longer than most do. The reason for this is, if it matters, is because my body hair (legs, underarms, etc) is not only fairly coarse, but also grows quickly. To keep things smooth would require a campaign of daily shaving sessions which I do not have the energy for.

When I do shave, which happens anywhere from 1-5 times per month, I find most disposable razors get clogged from hair fairly quickly and the hair doesn't come out, it just gets stuck in there and can't be rinsed out. Is there a better method of doing this? Am I doomed to using a whole package of razors to get the job done? Are there any razors that you know of that are designed so that the hair shaved doesn't get trapped in the little crevices? It made me wonder about men shaving their body hair, as they generally have much more...how do they cope with this problem?

I understand that alternate methods like waxing, electrolysis and chemical depilatories might be a solution for others but for my own various reasons I have already ruled these methods out. I'm mainly looking for a razor designed to deal with longer hair or some other shaving solution I have not thought of. Thanks for your help.

Sea rescue by big-ass vessels?

What is the "man-overboard" or "we just spotted a stick-thin and hairy Tom Hanks on a makeshift raft" scenario for very large and heavy ships, like container ships? It's not practical to stop them and it can't be done in any reasonable amount of time or distance, and I assume they don't keep a helicopter on board. Do they drop a speedboat to go and pick the guy up, which then catches up with the ship? Also, in the second scenario, I'm curious as to whether a massively-laden vessel running on tiny margins would effect a rescue of somebody in ragged loincloth on the open ocean. I assume maritime law requires it, but I'm cynical about corporate behavior when no-one's looking (imagine that) and wonder if anyone knows how this would play out in practice.

How do I permanently remove chin hair?

I'm female, and I have hair on my chin. How to best remove it? I started to get the occasional chin hair in my late teens, and I would pluck them as soon as they were long enough to be tweezed. One day I had the stupid idea that it would be easier/faster to shave just that spot instead of waiting for the hairs to grow long enough to tweeze. Don't ever, ever do this. They started to grow in thicker, and they started to spread everywhere the razor touched; instead of fine vellus hair, I have stubble like a guy. I have to shave this every day. (FYI, my hormonal levels test within normal ranges, but I am naturally more hirsute than most women.)

I'm sick of shaving, sick of having this on my face, and I figure there must be some permanent solution. I imagine MTF transsexuals must go through this? I'm not scared of the pain of electrolysis or laser treatments, however I am scared of any permanent scars or redness on my face. I'm also quite poor. What are my options?

I have black hairy tongue! Yikes! Advice?

Following some dental adventures, I seem to have some lingua villosa nigra, aka "black [hairy] tongue". Reportedly harmless, but is there anything (a) I should know or worry about, and (b) I can do to quash it on the double? I've found some documentation online [e.g. 1, 2, 3] which seems to match up with what I'm experiencing well: it's painless and otherwise asymptomatic, and I've been using a crazy powerful mouthwash for the last week as prescribed by my oral surgeon after an extraction last Tuesday.

My oral hygiene the last week is impeccable, and I haven't been flirting with any of the other commonly mentioned personal-habit causes other than a cup of coffee every other day. The bio-wasteland my mouthwash has brought on seems like the culprit.

I've set up an appointment with the mouth man for tomorrow evening, which will hopefully confirm that this is what's going on, but I'm curious what specific experiences folks have had with this, and if there's anything particularly helpful to do to de-funk my mouth besides the apparently standard advice of gentle tongue-brushing and mild peroxide rinses.

Introducing the bearded lady...

I'm a hairy woman. What is the criteria for being "hirsute" on a woman? How can I tell if I have PCOS? I'm a hairy woman.

This is troubling enough. I want to have an idea of whether or not I'm medically "hirsute" before I approach my doctor about this. I'm really embarrassed. I've already seen him for my horrible razor burn on my legs; I have a referral to a dermotologist (though most have been unhelpful about my razor burn). Should I ask the derm about my hairiness?

For the record: I have hairy thighs and dark hair below the knee. I have dark hairs on my breasts, a few on my chin, a mild 'stach, and a dark happy trail. My arms are hairy enough to warrant comment and my back and butt are fuzzy. I even had a rogue hair on my neck this morning, which broke the straw on the camel's back and urged me to post here.

My mom is a bit hairy, but only on her arms. My dad's not outrageously hairy. I asked my mom whether I had a hairy aunt or something, but none's to be found. I have heavy, painful periods and high-normal blood glucose. I'm about ten pounds overweight.

Does this sound like PCOS? Does it sound like a freak mutant gene and I should just deal with it? Is this hairiness benign or is something more sinister going on behind the scenes?

Summer's coming, and I have to wear shorts eventually...

Arm Stubble?

Ladies, do you shave your arms? I've noticed several young women in my college classes visible stubble on their forearms. They are not competitive swimmers, it seems to be an aesthetic choice. Is this common? Getting commoner? Why?

Grooming for, uh, down there?

I have a hairy anus (come on inside...) I am curious as to the best way to manage my man hair in this region? surely some advanced techniques have been developed which promote comfort and hygiene for this little discussed male burden?

also, what is the benefit of my hairy anus from a darwinian/evolutionary point of view?
