I have shoulder length, straight, dense, ultra-fine hair. What are some cute hairstyles I can pull off that don't rely on heat styling?

So I'm a 23-year-old guy with curly hair. My hairstyle has been based almost entirely on neglect since I was born. Time to grow up. How does a guy get away with curly hair in 2011?

I've got
naturally curly (bordering on frizzy) shoulder-length hair that I generally don't style at all...I just wash and go. But now I'm thinking about getting some hot rollers.

I'm trying (again) to grow my hair out. Every time I've tried this before, my wavy, somewhat poofy hair looks terrible after a couple months - like the geeky kid in period 70s movies. Help me maintain a fashionable hair style until it gets where I want it!

Have you ever gone to a hairstylist, sat down, said "do whatever you want" and experienced a miracle? I need one of those in Seattle.

I'm a guy with fairly long hair (halfway down my back long). Currently I have two styles: Tied back in a ponytail and not tied back. What else can I do with my hair that won't be too feminine-looking? I'm looking for short-term things, not long term things like dreadlocks.

Is there a resource (web, ideally, but books, etc. are fine too) that shows multiple ways to style basic haircuts? I want it to show a picture of the cut (ex. shoulder-length bob), with lots of options as far as updo's, blow-outs, waves, partial ups, etc. I'm not talking about the 1 or 2 styles it shows in a lot of styling books that are available at the chain salons - I want lots and lots and lots. Is there anything out there?

Recommendations for a place to get a good men's haircut in the Washington, DC/Arlington, VA area? I'm looking for somewhere a little better than your run-of-the-mill SuperCuts/Hair Cuttery but not a totally intimidating/fancy salon.
