I've been cutting my hair very short, and discovered that while I didn't mind my graying hair when it was a normal length, it is much grayer-looking when cut this close and does not look good in combination with my untanned white scalp. Can someone point out good hair color products for white guys with extremely short hair? [more inside]

I've seen some great advice on hair cuts here on MeFi and I'm hoping someone can help me. I'm performer and occasionally get the opportunity to get all decked out 1920's/30's style. I really love doing this and would like to do it more frequently but one of the hardest aspects is getting the hair right. I'm going to need a trim soon, can you help me instruct my hairstylist on a style that will be easy to maintain on a daily basis but will allow for the period styling when the need occurs? Two weeks ago my hair type suddenly... changed. Or something happened to it. It went from smooth and shiny to coarse and frizzy and feeling like it's coated in conditioner that hasn't been washed out, yet horribly dry at the same time. I feel as though I've tried everything. Help? [more inside]

I've always wanted to try waxing my legs (and.... eventually... other stuff too....) but I've been too scared of the pain. However, shaving my legs every five seconds is REALLY getting old, so finally I decided to try it. It was pretty much a disaster. What did I do wrong and how can I make it work better for me? I've been submitting hair samples myself with the Hairconfirm test. I understand the hair test, confirms usage within a 90 day period.
On day 72, I submitted samples, and tested positive with a .53 pg/mg for THC Metabolite.
On day 92, I submitted samples, and tested positive with a .45 pg/mg for THC Metabolite.
On day 108, I submitted samples, and STILL tested positive with a .42 pg/mg for THC Metabolite.
Why is the rate of reduction of THC Metabolites in my hair not reducing faster? [more inside]

A guy here with very fine hair and a ponytail. I would like to collect all my hair in the ponytail but the sides never gets long enough. Is there anything I can do to get it stronger and longer? Much annoyed by flying hair when the top is down.

My friend is getting married in September in Somerville, MA. She wants her hair in finger waves
. She's struggling to find a salon in metro Boston that can do
finger waves. Any personal recommendations (especially reasonable-cost ones) from people who have gotten finger waves in the Boston area? The wedding is on a Saturday afternoon (so hair would be Saturday morning). Transit accessibility is not an issue; assume she'll have a car. [more inside]

as well)? I don't know what to even call it to use my google-fu! I just know that it is fabulous and I need to do it. Currently I'm growing out a pixie, so I should have the correct amount of hair. Sorry for such a silly question!

Where in or around North County San Diego can I find a hair stylist who will cut my hair in a short, edgy style without fretting over how short is too short for a woman, or what hairstyles suit a tall body or a oblong face? I'd love to find somebody unafraid to have fun with my hair, who has experience doing more alternative-looking cuts. [more inside]

Help a girl have her mid-40s rebellion: I'm fat and I want short hair. I'm totally willing to break the "fat girls shouldn't have short hair" rule, but what I don't understand is what kind of style will work because my hair is naturally wavy in the "jew-fro" style. [more inside]

I've had the same hair for a few years now and am looking for a change--however, I'm completely stuck. I'm thinking about bangs to help give structure to my face, but curly hair and bangs don't easily mix, do they? I'd like a style that's compatible with both straight and curly hair. All length suggestions welcome, but I feel my face won't suit a super short 'do. If you have pictures of your own great curly manes, please post! Pictures after the jump. [more inside]

2 part question here.
1st time mom who doesn't always get the luxury of a shower, let alone the chance to actually blow dry my hair. I feel pretty icky these days.
1.) I have coarse, super thick, semi wavy, caucasian, shoulder length hair. My hair has no dye in it (all that grew out and was chopped long ago). I only wash it twice a week. Blow drying is not an option these days because of little munchkin. Please recommend me a product to keep it from looking like my bff is a light socket.
2.) What else do fellow home all day moms do to make yourself feel a little pretty despite the spoiled milk, crusty fruit, lucky if you shower ickiness that comes with the territory? [more inside]

I recently have gotten a hair cut that looks best when I wear my hair wavy. In the past when I wear my hair wavy the results have been mixed. Sometimes it looks great, and others dull and frizzy. I have tried a different types of products and find most of it to be inconsistent. Since my hair is shorter now and can't go to a pony tail, I am having to suffer through the bad hair days. Are there any products or styling regimines to have this happen as little as possible? [more inside]

Hola folks! I am located in WNY area near the Canadian border (willing to drive into Ontario for shoppin'!) and am hoping someone can guide me in the right direction for the right kind of pants. I am looking for Semi-Fitted Lower-waisted (I am short waisted but have serious hips - I HATE those fold-down waist ones with a burning passion) Yoga pants to wear for Yoga & Workouts that also are *not* a matte/cotton type texture. I have light coloured animals in my home and also am self conscious about wearing light colours...hence for the sake of my sanity I like my yoga pants to be a "slick" texture and black or another dark colour. I usually spend about five minutes on my long, wavy hair in the morning. What minor things (two minutes or less) do you add to your hairstyle to make it look more polished and done? Examples would be things like, "curl the ends of your ponytail" or "hide your crappy elastic hairtie with a strand of hair and a bobbypin". [more inside]

Looking for someone who does great short cuts for women. I'm driving to my 20-year college reunion this weekend, and have just received a truly terrible haircut. Seriously, it's basically a mullet. The only cure is going short. If you can recommend someone in or around Harrisonburg, VA who's great with short hair, please do! (Alternatively, I'll be passing through Charleston, WV and Columbus on my way, so they're options too - but ideally I'd like to find someone near me.) Thank you!

I've always heard that hair
(at least the visible part of it) is "dead," so I would expect it to be more of less the same from day to day in terms of its texture (given, of course, whatever state it's in during any given time period with whatever shampoos and such I'm currently throwing on it). But then, why is it that on days where I didn't get a lot of sleep the night before, my hair is significantly limp and heavy? [more inside]

I have been looking online for advice and recommendations regarding training to become a classic barber. Can anyone recommend a school that has barbering as it's primary focus? I am not
interested in a cosmetology school that also
teaches the skills necessary to work in a barbershop, or learning from a teacher who cuts and styles women's hair but also
does men's hair. Is there a good place to learn and master the skills associated with the classic barbershop (clippers, scissors, straight razor, etc.), from a teacher who specializes in these skills exclusively? [more inside]

For years I've been using Pureology Texture Twist. Product description here.
Of course since I like it, it's now discontinued.
I haven't tried other products, I liked the way this allowed me to style my hair (messy/spikey). I liked that it was more on the "natural end" of things, didn't have petroleum/mineral oil, and was amazingly balanced at "staying" and being easy to wash out.
Any recommendations for a replacement? I found this from a hair stylist I used to see who was always trying new stuff. My current one only recommends things she sells (surprise!)
