MarketingFilter: My wife has opened a hair salon specializing in cutting children's hair. We've done a few marketing efforts already but the results have been less than I'd hoped and I'd like to see if there are some other good ideas to explore.

HairFilter: After a year or more of growing my hair out for the nth time in my life, I have decided to shave/buzz cut it off, but I want to have some fun doing it! Specifically, I would like to integrate some crazy and/or interesting hair adventure into my Halloween costume. Suggestions, please, all you lovely Mefites!

Is there a resource (web, ideally, but books, etc. are fine too) that shows multiple ways to style basic haircuts? I want it to show a picture of the cut (ex. shoulder-length bob), with lots of options as far as updo's, blow-outs, waves, partial ups, etc. I'm not talking about the 1 or 2 styles it shows in a lot of styling books that are available at the chain salons - I want lots and lots and lots. Is there anything out there?

A question for the AskMefi women. Guys in their late thirties or early forties who dye their hair: O.K. or icky? And for those of you who think it's lame: is it lame enough to become a dealbreaker when you start seeing a guy?

Good hair clippers? I've been using clippers to periodically crop my hair to somewhere between 1/4" to 1/2" over the last few years. But I've always bought cheap Conair clippers that I found in Target or the grocery store or something. Is there something better?

I am going to be dyeing some sections of my hair some wild and funky colour. I have done this before, (blue, pink, purple) using Jerome Russell's "Punky Color" product. Recently, a new product has become available in my town, "Manic Panic." Does anyone have any experience with Manic Panic? With both? Which would you recommend? Please don't suggest any other dye brand, these are the only two I have access to. While you're at it, any tips on dyeing hair unnatural colours? I do plan on bleaching first.

Need recommendations for men's hair stylist in San Francisco/ East Bay Area. My SO's much younger brother is staying with us for the summer. He has terrible hair- thin, fine, and yet somehow wiry. Tendency to do weird spiky things. Help us help him get a decent haircut.

Gross Body Filter: I am female and have primarily straight brown, fairly fine hair. However, I frequently find these very curly, coarse black hairs growing on my scalp. (Dare I say pubic-like hairs?) What the hell are these hairs? Is this a hormonal problem or some sort of disorder? If so, what is it called?

I recently acquired two cats which is lovely and enriching excepting that I am now living inside a giant hairball. Cat hair everywhere. Millions spent on lint rollers.
First question: Can anyone recommend a decent, reasonably-priced vacuum cleaner that can tackle pet hair? It must have attachments and a HEPA filter. Also, I have bare floors.
Second question: Does anyone use an Ionic Breeze or a similar air purifier? Is it worth the money?

My wife is thinking of buying
this electric hair-removal gadget. It purports to burn the hair off at the root and, over time, reduce the overall amount and regrowth of body hair. We can find no online references to the apparatus other than sites selling it (in Chile), which in itself makes us suspicious, and wonder if anybody has tried similar gadgets, or knows if this kind of system can have any sort of unwanted side effects.

I shave about three times a week and have black hair, but occasionally I'll wake up to see a blond hair that's half an inch long or longer has sprouted out of my face overnight. The same thing has happened on my arms and legs, with much-longer-than-ordinary blond hairs appearing amidst my regular body hair. What's going on?

My hair is thinning. This really sucks. I knew it would happen (uncle on mom's side has it) but what can I do to slow it down? Rogaine is out of the question as it is bad for my wife if she gets near it when trying to have kids. I have been using this "hair thickening" shampoo which doesn't seem to be doing much. Also why is it called male
pattern baldness? Where's the pattern?

I turn 30 in two weeks. About two years ago, I went from only having to shave a couple of times a week, to shaving every day (or I look like a mountain man). I've also started growing great amounts of hair on my back (ick!), where there was none before.
Is this sudden burst of hormones (I almost want to call it "second puberty") normal for guys going through middle age? I'm just much harier than I was two years ago, and nothing else has changed.

If a man is described as having a

bob. It is just due to the shortness being relative to what is normal for that sex, or does it mean only one of these to you?

Total vanity question: Alright, I don't know much about hair, but recently I've grown my hair a bit longer. To my annoyance, my hair now dings out sideways at the end, like they're trying to defy gravity, and don't go straight down. So, what can be done? I wash them everyday. Are there conditioners or other things that I should be using?
