I have super thick, wavy/curly long hair and I am not willing to spend a bunch of time everyday trying to wrangle my hair into submission. How can I get nice, straight hair that I can wear down in public and it not look like I stuck my finger in an electrical socket or I am growing dog ears? Details below!

My two-and-a-half-year-old daughter has inherited my crazy-thick, curly, totally uncooperative hair. She is a spitfire personality who despises having her head washed/combed/messed with, and I want to somehow minimize the trauma of keeping her looking civilized (which, at the moment, she rarely does). Help!

I've always heard that
hair (at least the visible part of it) is "dead," so I would expect it to be more of less the same from day to day in terms of its texture (given, of course, whatever state it's in during any given time period with whatever shampoos and such I'm currently throwing on it). But then, why is it that on days where I didn't get a lot of sleep the night before, my hair is significantly limp and heavy?

I have been looking online for advice and recommendations regarding training to become a classic barber. Can anyone recommend a school that has barbering as it's primary focus? I am
not interested in a cosmetology school that
also teaches the skills necessary to work in a barbershop, or learning from a teacher who cuts and styles women's hair but
also does men's hair. Is there a good place to learn and master the skills associated with the classic barbershop (clippers, scissors, straight razor, etc.), from a teacher who specializes in these skills exclusively?

For years I've been using Pureology Texture Twist.
Product description here. Of course since I like it, it's now discontinued.
I haven't tried other products, I liked the way this allowed me to style my hair (messy/spikey). I liked that it was more on the "natural end" of things, didn't have petroleum/mineral oil, and was amazingly balanced at "staying" and being easy to wash out.
Any recommendations for a replacement? I found this from a hair stylist I used to see who was always trying new stuff. My current one only recommends things she sells (surprise!)

I'm a 27 year old male. I've noticed my hair has been thinning out and receding my hairline over the last year. Is there anything I can do to keep it sticking around for a while longer? I didn't expect to be witnessing this before I'm 30.

So hair technology has changed since the nineties and my last product-requiring hairstyle. I now have a perfectly standard irritating men's style-blogger/
Talented Mr. Ripley haircut and I require something to keep the damn thing out of my eyes. But since my hair is not quite long enough to stay back really well (it's at that stage where it's too long
not to use product, but not quite long enough to be easy to style) and my hair is very straight, thick, coarse and willful, I require a hair product that has some hold.

A couple of weeks ago, my wife took mercy on me and told me that my hair looks ridiculous. The words she used were "it's dated" and "sometimes I cringe when you go out like that." OK then, message received. Here's the problem: I have no clue what I would want it to look like. I can fit what I want into three very broad parameters:

I've googled this, and suggestions include using online sites where you actually pay for an ad or using ebay (which I am unfamiliar with). I've seen reports that for quality hair you can get up to $1,000 for 10+ inches.
