How was my Google cache hacked? I have a web page that is fine, but the Google cache of the same page is a "spam" page with keywords linking to other web sites, random text and images, but also some valid links on my web site. How did that happen? [more inside]

I am taking a brain-painful networking class (hint: it's all about the routers, baby!) and the studying is intense. It's hard, but I'm holding my own. I see questions here on AskMe that bring really cool answers from lots of folks, with a lot of repeat answerers, which leads me to ask, How Did You Learn What You Know About Computers/the Internet? Was it in school? Did you apprentice with someone who had m4d sk1lz? Did you teach yourself? Other?

A couple months ago my site was lightly hacked. It happened again on a site for a friend of my father, possibly not as lightly. -->

I'm new to the running a website thing. Reading the log files I noticed that people are already trying to hack me. Right now its the basic look for frontpage access (which, obviously, I don't have as I write everything in textpad) but I want to know what steps should I take to secure the server? How can I protect ftp directories, monitor bandwidth theft in the form of linking to images, etc.? can I prevent that all together?

This is an embarassingly simple question, but after plowing through the Internet Explorer prefs, I can't find the answer.

When using blogger, a small window is left on your screen with a "close" button. When you click on it, a warning pops up: "this web page is trying to close your window and do strange things to your cat." and then you have to click a confirmation button.

Yeah, yeah, I know I can close the window three other ways, but for weak, idiosyncratic reasons would like to just click on that "close" button.

(why do I feel like"Monk" here...)
