I was recently diagnosed with a urethral diverticulum which bulges through my anterior vaginal wall. I hadn't noticed it at all until I went to a nurse for bacterial vaginosis, and she referred me to a gynecologist for what she thought was a cyst. The urogynecologist I met with sent me to get an MRI and suggested surgery to remove the pouch, since it is periodically filling with fluid and could cause complications (recurrent UTIs, &c.) if not treated.

Why do people become gynecologists? I don't understand why gynecologists go into their profession. They look at women's vaginas all day. How do they explain that one to family and friends? Do they brag about it? Are they embarrassed? Why don't they go into a more respectable branch of their profession, like a surgeon or a family doctor? Why would they specifically choose gynecology?

After a routine pap test and pelvic exam my doctor is sending me for an ultrasound because he thinks I have an enlarged uterus. I am not pregnant. My google-fu only turns up information on uterine fibroids. So what does it mean to have an enlarged uterus and is it bad?

What's up with my ovary? I had an ultrasound this morning and on the picture of my left ovary there was a long, thin, very squiggly line. I asked the technician but she said she couldn't tell me anything and that the doctor would call me in a week. A week?! I could be dead by then!

"tab-gen abortion"
"a demonstration set of lams, pale green matchsticks made of compressed seaweed."
These phrases occur in a novel I'm reading; the speaker is (presumably) a gynecologist or CNP who is counseling a patient about a second-trimester abortion. I Googled and searched various medical encylopedias and came up empty. What is "tab-gen"? And are lams some kind of abortifacient suppository? Thanks.

I have had irregular, painful menstrual cycles from the age of 14, but in my 20s they basically became inverse periods: a few days of not bleeding, with most at a low, constant flow, and a few like a normal cycle. When it’s bad, I feel like I have a constant low-grade flu, with fatigue, muscle ache, mental fogginess, and wild moods of sadness and anger. Several pelvic exams and sonograms have shown no fibroids nor anything anatomical that should be causing this. I’ve tried birth control pills (that caused weight gain and nausea, even at low doses), and the ring and the patch, which didn't help at all. I spent a few years on Norplant with no cycle at all, but terrible problems with weight gain that I am still struggling with. The only product I have had luck with was Lunelle, which is no longer available in the US. Has anyone else ever dealt with this and found something that worked? I’ve seen many gynecologists over the years and none have an answer. I'm in my early 30s now and seriously considering a hysterectomy because I can't live like this anymore.
