I'm thinking of a music video by a Japanese rock band that starts with a long tracking shot of a huge guitar effects pedal chain. I know it is an amazing song but I can't for the life of me recall the name.

I'm 24, I've been kicked out of college twice, and I want a degree that will be a good springboard for going into the guitar effects/amplification field. Also, a >$40k salary starting out would be nice. Is electrical engineering the right fit for what I'm looking for?

GuitarFilter: Multi FX vs. Pedals. In particular, I'm trying to figure out whether I should buy a $100 floor controller for my Line 6 Pod XT, or stump for a couple of pedals instead. Lots of snowflakiness inside.

I'm getting back into playing my electric guitar. Two questions: 1) how do I tell whether it's worth throwing money at the existing guitar vs. getting a new one (details inside, I'm in Boston); and 2) what's a good effects processor these days (details also inside).

A little while back I heard a bass guitar player with some kind of amazing live looping set-up - what on earth was it? I keep wondering what he was doing. All I could see was that he was grabbing (sampling) things he was playing, as he was playing them (ie while he was continuing to play), using foot pedals of some sort, and then incorporating those loops into the rest of the track. Amazing. But how?

GuitarGearFilter: I'm a semi-skilled guitarist looking to add pedals and effects to my rig. I like the idea of those several-pedals-in-one processor thingies, but I'm baffled by the array of stuff out there and a bit wary of the opinions of the possibly-commissioned staff of the local music store.

What is the effect on Steve Hackett's guitar solo on the live version of Counting Out Time? It's definitely weird pitchy and I'm boggled as to what it is...My first thought was a Mutron Biphase, but I after listening to it a few times I don't think so...If any early Genesis/Steve Hackett fans can help, much thanks!

My daughter's birthday is in 3 weeks & I'd like to get here an effects pedal for the stratocaster she appropriated from me, but I'm largely clueless. Would like to keep cost around $100-150. Any suggestions on brand/model/features?

So I am in a band, and I usually play through a Carvin DC-127T guitar, through a Zoom1010 effects processor and then directly into a PA system. I need help with the tone, however. [more inside]
