I own this amp.
It works fine except for one thing: the sound is tremendously bassy. Currently, I have the bass turned all the way down and the treble all the way up and it is STILL too bassy. I only play distorted/high gain. What are my best options for getting a treblier sound?

Over the weekend, I was blindsided by a powerful urge to buy an acoustic bass guitar (not stand up bass), mostly for noodling around the house without plugging in my electric or an occasional acoustic jam with friends. Can you give any buying advice or perspectives? [more inside]

i'm trying to hang guitars and basses on a brick wall. i have instrument hangers already, but drilling a million holes into brick seems like A BAD IDEA so i thought i would hang a board (cedar, i ALSO already have it) on the wall (many fewer screw-holes) and then just screw the guitar holders to the plank. the plank is 5.5" wide and 1 1/4" deep (and 6 feet long) and really pretty, so i'm ALMOST happy. The ends are really roughly cut though (despite my best sanding job), and i was hoping to cover them up with something (copper? silk?) so it looks a bit less like i, um, hung a plank on the wall, and more like i'm incredibly crafty and awesome. what should i use for the ends of these boards? google is not helping, but maybe i'm searching using the wrong words(?). thank you!

I've played classical piano for years, but I'm just starting out with jazz and blues. A friends is learning bass guitar from scratch. Can anyone recommend some easy riffs or chord progressions we could play together?

What are some suggestions for a nice acoustic bass guitar (not a stand-up bass fiddle; not an acoustic-electric) that I can purchase for my son at a VERY reasonable price? [more inside]

What are more songs (or albums) similar to Metallica's Orion, particularly the counterpoint that starts at around 4:00?

The bass player in my band has this combo amp
. It has 2 internal speakers, and an external speaker jack rated for a minimum impedance of 4 ohms. If he wants to hook up an additional cabinet, what does the impedance of the extra cab need to be? [more inside]

My son (8) wants to be Les Claypool. While I can't fault his source of inspiration, I'm not sure starting on the bass is the right way to go--and if it isn't, where do we start? [more inside]

My Guitar Hero drum's kick pedal is dead. I looked online but there are a lot
of options and mixed reviews for most of what I found.
What's the best mix of frugality and "not going to die on me"-ality that I can find? I'm not opposed to buying an entire new set if that makes more sense.

Beginner bass player looking for musicians to aspire to and music to be inspired by. Name me your favorite songs with a wicked bass solo, and bands driven by a heavy melodic bass line. I'm especially interested to hear about female singers accompanied by only her bass as well. Thank you!

MusicianFilter: I accidentally broke the headstock off my neighbors Vacarro 5 string bass (Don't ask...lets just say it was a late night session). I’m looking to replace the neck, but cannot find anyone who can get a 5 string Vacarro neck. Anyone have any suggestions? I’m in the NY metro area.

I play bass guitar. I'm not bad at it. In fact, I'm quite good. How do I get auditions to start playing for touring musicals and the like? (and do I stand a chance?) [more inside]

A little while back I heard a bass guitar player with some kind of amazing live looping set-up - what on earth was it? I keep wondering what he was doing. All I could see was that he was grabbing (sampling) things he was playing, as he was playing them (ie while he was continuing to play), using foot pedals of some sort, and then incorporating those loops into the rest of the track. Amazing. But how?

What exactly is the difference between a guitar and bass amp? If I were to get the latter, could I plug in the former instrument and still get similar bitchin' sounds out of my rig? [more inside]

Possibly the whitest man in the world here currently building a bonfire out of all his Fender basses and tossing his standup on top. Anyone know who played bass on Honey Cone's "Want Ads?". I'm guessing James Jamerson, who probably walked in and did it in one take and yawned and said anything else? Sort of a throwaway tune I guess, but Jebus....guys just walk into a a studio and do that? Sorry for the earworm, but I just want to shake the guy's hand so I can count his damned fingers.

I've never played any instruments in my life and at the age of 29 I'm interested in learning the electric bass guitar.
Will I be able to do this? Or do you have to have been playing an instrument since you were a child? Erm, that's it.
Oh, any similar experiences or useful resources would be good to hear about. Ta.

In the video for invisible Sun, from "Reggatta Mondatta"
, there was something that looked like a fretless, stringless, bodyless (a la Steinberg) bass. It had a very electronic sound, and was played by tapping, apparently. I don't think it was a stick
, as it didn't seem to have strings, but I might be wrong. Does such a beast exist?
