I bought a new laptop that has 2 hard drive bays. It came with a hard drive with Windows 7 preinstalled. I bought an SSD, installed Windows and Linux fresh onto it, wiped the old hard drive and used it as a data disk, but something is slightly out-of-whack in the boot sequence (and a partition is marked "System" when it really isn't). Is it worth fixing?

Due to my work laptop dying, I installed the gui on my Ubuntu 11.10 server. No biggie except that it seems to have messed up the video mode. My LCD just displays an error. How can I get around this?

I have an Ubuntu server. It's a Dell PowerEdge with a PERC 6 RAID controller. I'm trying to get it to boot to a different drive, and grub doesn't seem to be cooperating - it appears to attempt to boot to the correct volume and partition and then bonks out when mounting /proc - what gives?

Have an existing install of REDHAT on a first partition, I have created a second partition and am trying to use GRUB to install a second OS (happens to be another version of redhat). Please help, or ask for more details if needed. From the GRUB command line how do I make it install on a selected partition.

DualBootFilter: I've moved a Windows XP hard drive into a new machine, in a physically different configuration, and I think I need to fix boot.ini and maybe the mbr but I'm not sure how.
Difficulty: new location is a secondary drive to a primary Linux drive running GRUB. Help?

Help me make my choice from one of the three options below:
1) Fix Windows so that it boots without messing up my Ubuntu.
2) Remove Windows completely. I don't need it anyways.
3) Shrink Windows to the bare minimum and reclaim the space with Ubuntu.

I was trying to install Linux (the latest version of that damned Mandrake), and I seem to have screwed my partition table. Neither Mandrake nor Windows XP will boot -- I'm posting this message from a Knoppix livecd. Mandrake just goes to a blank screen and hangs but Windows gives a message about a missing dll. What can I do to fix this? I'm in over my head here.
